The Washington Examiner is searching for a sharp and passionate Associate Breaking News Editor to join our dynamic team in Washington, D.C. You'll be at the heart of our newsroom, playing a crucial role in crafting compelling and timely content for our digital audience.
What You'll Do:
• Monitor news feeds and social media like a hawk, identifying breaking stories with potential for national impact.
• Craft concise, clear, and engaging articles on news, politics, and policy, ensuring accuracy and adherence to our editorial standards.
• Work collaboratively with reporters and editors to develop, refine, and publish compelling content.
• Stay ahead of the curve by understanding trends, anticipating reader interest, and identifying emerging voices.
• Contribute to the overall energy and excitement of the Breaking News team.
• Schedule will primarily be Tuesday to Saturday, with the chance to lead the website’s coverage on Saturdays. Starting times will vary throughout the week depending on news cycle and team needs.
What You Bring:
• Bachelor's (Required)
• 3+ years of experience in a fast-paced online news environment, ideally covering politics and/or current events.
• A proven track record of identifying and reporting on Breaking News effectively and quickly.
• Excellent writing skills with a knack for clear, concise, and engaging language.
• Strong news judgment and ability to prioritize stories under tight deadlines.
• Experience using social media, SEO and content management systems is a plus.
• A passion for politics and current events, with a deep understanding of the Washington, D.C. landscape, is highly desirable.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate seamlessly with reporters, editors, and other colleagues.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously under pressure.
