JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an associate to join the Estates & Trusts practice group in our Pittsburgh office. The associate will work closely with a senior shareholder on the full spectrum of estate & trust administration and planning legal projects for clients. Some of the key anticipated responsibilities are listed below:
- Provide analysis and counsel to clients on legal, and tax issues relating to estate planning and administration.
- Perform thorough legal research, identifying necessary information to navigate and guard against legal risks facing the client.
- Provide support for disputes involving fiduciary responsibility, estates and trusts, and other family matters.
- Incorporate estate and income tax planning strategies including irrevocable and revocable trusts, wills, Spousal Lifetime Access Trusts (SLAT) and Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts (GRAT).
- Represent the client or its officials at various legal proceedings, primarily in Orphan’s Court.
- Counsel clients on creation of long-term retirement and medical care planning.
- Prepare inheritance tax returns and federal estate tax returns.
- Draft documents including sales agreements, deeds, wills, estate plan documents, and various waivers.

Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- License to practice law in Pennsylvania
- Degree from an accredited law school
- 1-4 years’ experience in estate law preferred
- Excellent communication skills
- Solid writing and editing skills with a focus on developing thoughtful and persuasive messaging
- Ability to work in and adapt to a fast-paced work environment
- Strong organizational, time management, and project management mindset
- Commitment to professionalism, cooperation, and teamwork
- A strong drive to provide proactive, client-focused legal services
BENEFICIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in estate law litigation
- Experience drafting estate planning documents
- Experience with direct client contact
- Experience with iManage document management system
- Experience filing court documents, electronically preferred
- Active Notary license
