Assistant/Associate Professor of Physiology

Job Description:

As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University’s Department of Physiology and Pharmacology in the Division of Biomedical Sciences at Marian University, College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-COM) is seeking applications for a 12-month tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Physiology to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by contributing to the education of medical students and our Masters of Biomedical Science students. We are committed to developing osteopathic physicians through a curriculum that emphasizes a robust and integrated understanding of basic and clinical sciences for practical patient care.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with a team of dedicated physiologists to design and deliver physiology content as part of a comprehensive, systems-based medical curriculum. Faculty at MU-COM play a pivotal role in facilitating an in-depth comprehension of the human body’s normal processes, as well as the integration and regulation of these processes in both health and disease. In this role, you will focus on instructing students in concepts related to the physiology of human health and the mechanisms underlying the development of various disease states. Opportunities also exist for teaching within your area of specific expertise within physiology or related disciplines. MU-COM, established as Indiana’s second medical college in 2013, places a strong emphasis on holistic patient care, addressing the mind, body, and spirit to uncover the root causes of illnesses. MU-COM is housed in the state-of-the-art Michael A Evans Center for Health Science, which features The Browning Anatomy Lab equipped with 36 cadaveric dissection stations, each with computer terminals. Additionally, we have The Hill-Rom Simulation Center, offering students realistic, hands-on training in a safe and controlled environment. Our faculty and students benefit from access to nationally recognized hospitals, research facilities, community outreach clinics, and other medical organizations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The successful applicant will provide instruction primarily to medical students in the DO program in the in various areas of Physiology – a robust background in respiratory and renal physiology is highly desired.
  • Collaborate with other MU-COM faculty in the design, delivery, evaluation, and improvement of the curriculum.
  • Ensure DO students grasp physiology in normal and abnormal states for success in the NBOME COMLEX-USA Level I exam and clinical rotations.
  • Demonstrates excellence in scholarly activity through the establishment of scholarship that involves students and leads to the creation and dissemination of new knowledge.
  • Provides excellence in service to the University and community through involvement and leadership on committees and professional societies, and by providing mentorship to students.
  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.

  • Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree in Physiology or a closely related discipline.
  • A strong interest in teaching. Special consideration will be given to those with experience in health professions and/or graduate level education.
  • The qualified candidates should have a proven record of scholarly activity (e.g., publications, funding) consistent with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
