Department Information

The Department of Economics and Finance at the University of North Georgia offers a major in finance and minors in FinTech and in Economics. The Department is a part of the Mike Cottrell College of Business. The MCCB is an AACSB-accredited college of business that offers programs on five campuses in the North Georgia region, located near the largest grouping of FinTech companies in the country. The MCCB includes the Institute for Cyber Operations, the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and the Truist Center for Ethical Leadership. In addition to the B.B.A. with majors in finance, accounting, management, marketing, and information systems, the college offers undergraduate degrees in computer science, cybersecurity, and technology management, and minors that include business administration, computer science, cybersecurity, economics, entrepreneurship, and FinTech. Graduate programs include the Cottrell M.B.A., Master of Accountancy, Master of Computer Science, and four graduate certificates. The international group of teacher-scholars provides an exceptional learning community to prepare students for their professional roles and to engage with business and industry in the region to foster economic development.

Job Summary

The Department of Economics and Finance in the Mike Cottrell College of Business (MCCB) at the University of North Georgia (UNG) has an opening for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor starting fall 2024. Teaching assignments will include but are not limited to courses such as principles of Finance, financial institutions, financial policy, and derivative securities & risk management at the undergraduate level. The ability to teach in the MBA program is also expected. The start date is August 1, 2024. The position will be located at the Dahlonega campus, but teaching assignments can include other campuses. Experience with student managed investment funds and Bloomberg satisfaction is a plus.

Responsibilities
  • The most likely teaching schedule for this position will be three finance classes each fall semester and three finance classes each spring semester. In addition, this individual will be expected to contribute to a respectful and collegial institutional culture.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or DBA in finance with a record of scholarship in the field from an AACSB-accredited institution is required at the time of hire. ABD candidates will also be considered.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to innovative teaching, evidence of ability to conduct quality scholarship, and willingness to engage in service to the department, college, university, and profession.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with student-managed investment activities and Bloomberg activities/certification is preferred.
  • Online teaching experience is also preferred.
