SalaryAssistant Winemaker
Precept Wine is the largest privately-owned wine company in the Northwest. Currently we are looking for the best and brightest to fill an immediate opening for an Assistant Winemaker located at Willow Crest Winery in Prosser, WA.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for quality control oversight of both lab & cellar functions
- Responsible for monitoring and tracking of wine chemistry and microbiology
- Support the fermentation, fining, filtration and blending processes
- Execute lab analysis and record all data in key documents and systems
- Responsible for complying with applicable quality and safety regulations
- Participate in management of wine production operation as assigned
- Understand fruit sourcing & contribute to vineyard evaluation as needed
- Contribute to improving the overall process of winemaking
- Generate work orders as related to all winemaking activities
- Assist winemaker with executing and planning tasks
- Ensure inventories are current with stock for winemaking supplies list
- Other duties as assigned by winemaker
Ideal candidate will have:
- College degree required, preferably a BS in Enology and/or Viticulture.
- 5+ years’ winery experience including lab testing, analysis and microbiology
- Stay current with all new technologies and regulatory changes
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to function and even thrive in fast paced work environment
- In-depth winemaking knowledge, understanding of wine winemaking theory and winey laboratory practices
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills
- Must be flexible with hours during harvest and other busy times
