The Computational Biology Department (CBD) is one of the seven academic departments of SCS and draws upon the incredible energy and expertise in the entire School. The department is a world leader in the development and implementation of rigorous computational approaches to biomedical research problems. We promote innovation in computational and quantitative thinking for driving biomedical research and practice by pioneering new directions in computational biology, bringing rigorous data-driven science to the planning and execution of biomedical research, and educating a diverse group of future leaders of life sciences and medicine.
We are seeking a senior administrative professional to serve as the Assistant to the Department Head! This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. This role provides a wide variety of administrative support for the CBD department. You will organize and expedite workflows, perform research, and summarize findings, and act as a resource to less experienced administrative staff.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Acts as a liaison or contact person with other university departments, i.e., Budget Office,
- Registrar, Property Management, Human Resources, etc., and with outside organizations.
- Assists in the research, preparation, and processing of information.
- Works with HR, OIE, and immigration attorneys on visa requests for the Department.
- Attends various meetings within the Department. May serve on inter-departmental committees.
- Maintains calendars to ensure time-critical issues such as provisional and annual performance reviews, performance management activities, group meetings, project reviews, etc. are identified and adhered to.
- Oversees office support staff and/or student workers including assisting in the selection and training of staff and students; allocation and review of work including performance feedback; and ongoing evaluation of department procedures to ensure efficiency.
- Performs research to respond to requests and summarizes findings; completes special projects as assigned.
- Produces reports and correspondence; prioritizes and schedules meetings, travel arrangements, etc. Ensures all supporting information is produced and available.
- Provides a wide variety of administrative support for a Director, Associate Dean, or equivalent management level. May support more than one manager.
- Assists in the research, preparation, and processing of information.
- Attends various meetings within the Department. May serve on inter-departmental committees.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; Associate's degree preferred.
- 5-8 years of administrative support experience
- Experience in higher education preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, organizational skills.
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
