Essential Functions
This job description indicates the normal type and level of work expected of the incumbent. Incumbent may be asked to perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
- Manages network switching equipment and firewall appliances by performing duties including, but not limited to: adding and deleting network users, configuring and modifying Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN's), updating and maintaining the Local Area Networks (LAN) Wide Area Networks (WAN), administering site-to-site and mobile VPNs to assure stable functionality. Analyzes current performance and plans to determine needs for new network/server hardware and software.
- Assist with server, email and telephone systems administration by performing installations, updates, upgrades, backups and documentation of network objects, assists with telephone moves and changes, setting up call directories and hunt groups in the Mitel VOIP system, troubleshooting AS/400 peripherals and software, coordinating with outside agencies for support as needed, etc.
- Assist with the configuration and maintenance of the VMWare Virtual Server System, including, but not limited to: virtual network configuration; virtual server updates; Storage Area Networks (SAN) maintenance and configuration.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mobile data systems in the law enforcement patrol units, including mobile computers, GPS, printers, fingerprint readers (IBIS units), Virtual Private Network (VPN) access, mobile hot spots, security, configuring Criminal Justice devices, and other systems.
- Assist with the development and implementation of departmental and county-wide technology projects.
- Support the integration of various communication tools such as smart phones, voice over internet protocol (VOIP) integration, analog telephones, fax server, email, etc.
- Instruct users on how to use equipment or software. Provide classroom and one-on-one training for county-supported software applications. Write necessary user-oriented instructions to enhance user self-sufficiency and understanding of systems.
- Provide 24/7 support for computer workstations and users as needed to maintain 24/7 operability. Troubleshoot and repair desktop equipment, network and local printers, telephone, and voicemail. Troubleshoot connectivity issues and contact the appropriate vendors to solve problems as necessary. Set up new computers (PCs) with appropriate software and networking configuration; install new software, upgrades and anti-malware protection.
- Research new devices and/or ways to repurpose current hardware, as requested by the manager.
- Provides work direction to Technology Services staff as applicable in areas of expertise.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate Degree in a computer-related field and four years of experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license required. Must successfully complete a criminal history background check.
Selection Process

Holidays: Full-time employees have approximately 14.5 paid holidays per year, including floating holidays, subject to the terms of the Personnel Policy or Collective Bargaining Agreement as applicable.
Vacation: Full-time employees earn 11 to 23 days per year, depending on tenure. Part-time employees earn pro- rated accruals.
Sick Time: Full-time employees accrue 12 sick days per year. Part-Time employees earn pro-rated accruals.

Employees have three (3) medical insurance plans to choose from, within three (3) different networks. The rates shown are effective 1/1/2024 through 12/31/2024.

Employees may choose to contribute additional funds to their HSA each year, up to the IRS limit of $4,150 for singles, and $8,300 for families. Once age 55, employees can contribute an additional $1,000 (to either single or family). The IRS limit applies to the total of employer and employee contributions combined.
Employees may choose to have their employer HSA contribution (if eligible) go into a VEBA account.
Dental Insurance
There is no cost to employee for single coverage. Family coverage costs the employee $74.22 per month.
Vision Insurance
Vision coverage is available and paid for by the employee at the following monthly rates:
- Employee Only - $5.85
- Employee + Spouse - $11.69
- Employee + Children - $11.31
- Family - $18.35
Plan options include medical and dependent care FSAs, as well as a premium only plan (pre-tax deduction of medical and dental premiums). These amounts cannot be changed during the year unless there is a qualifying life event. All funds must be used by claims deadline.
- FSA Medical/Health max election of $3,050 per year
- Limited Purpose FSA max election of $3,050 per year (used when you also have a H.S.A. Can only be used for vision, dental or orthodontia expenses).
- FSA Dependent Care max election of $5,000 per year per family ($2,500 if married and filing separately)

Life Insurance
