Essential Functions
The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Department of Foreign Languages and Literature invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with an earned doctorate in Spanish linguistics, applied linguistics, or closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered, however, must have your degree in hand prior to August 16, 2021. Candidates are expected to have native/near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. The teaching workload is 8-9 hours per semester with an additional 3 hours of research time. Teaching assignments will include courses in Spanish for heritage speakers, the introductory language sequence, composition, linguistics and/or applied linguistics, and graduate courses for the Master of Arts in Language Teaching. Additional duties include scholarly research and publication; contributing to diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts; advising undergraduate students, and engaging in service to the Department, the University, and the community. The Department encourages collaboration with other departments and programs, including the Office of Latino/Latin American Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, Black Studies, Native American Studies, the Goldstein Center for Human Rights, and the Service Learning Academy.
Our Department includes undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds, including many heritage Spanish speakers and first-generation students. The Department was the winner of the 2016 University-wide Departmental Teaching Award, and it currently has 94 majors, 189 minors and 12 graduate students. Our dedicated faculty is committed to publishing cutting edge research, while also striving to provide a student-centered experience in order to empower learners, so that they may become skilled, engaged citizens and professionals who can thrive in diverse local and global communities.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate excellence and/or promise in the following areas: teaching Spanish heritage speakers, experiential learning, teaching language for specific purposes, and best practices for teaching online language courses, as well as potential for original scholarly research.
