The University of Rhode Island’s Feinstein College of Education seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and/or Bilingual/Dual Language Education. This is a full-time, nine-month appointment beginning in Fall 2024. The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will enhance the College’s commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and academic excellence.

The successful candidate will participate as a core faculty member in a robust and growing TESOL/BDL program that includes faculty with expertise in refugee youth, translanguaging pedagogy, glocalization, teacher education, school leadership, language program evaluation, identity negotiation, and bilingual education. The selected candidate will be expected to conduct scholarly activities such as research in a particular field of knowledge and submit for publication and/or presentation at professional conferences; teach undergraduate and graduate courses; participate in department and university committees; and develop and maintain collaborative and professional partnerships with local schools and districts.

DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
Developing and maintaining an appropriate agenda of research and funding; teaching courses for TESOL and bilingual/dual Language Education, including, but not limited to second language acquisition, methods of TESOL/bilingual education, advising undergraduate and graduate students; and engaging in sustainable partnerships with local schools and districts to build knowledge and improve practices that serve multilingual students. The candidate may also teach courses and advise in additional programs in the College such as our new Ph.D. in Education.
Qualifications
Required:
Ph.D/Ed.D. in Education, TESOL, Bilingual Education, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Studies or closely related field at time of appointment.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
Preferred:
Demonstrated ability in culturally responsive teaching and experience teaching at public school environments with linguistically, culturally, racially, and economically diverse students.
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
