Adams State University is a state-supported, regional comprehensive university located in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado and the city of Alamosa. As the state's premier Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and a Minority Serving Institution (MSI), over 50 percent of its undergraduate students represent racially diverse backgrounds. A high percentage of undergraduate students are first-generation and Pell-eligible. The university offers undergraduate programs in the arts and humanities, physical and natural sciences, social sciences, kinesiology, fine arts, business, and nursing, and specializes in educator preparation in several disciplines. Adams State also offers graduate degrees in cultural resource management, public administration, music education, kinesiology, higher education administration and leadership, history, business (MBA), and educator programs, including counselor education; the university also has a doctoral (PhD) program in counselor education.
The university has an active athletic program. The Adams State Grizzlies athletic teams compete under the auspices of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Position Summary
We seek an energetic and enthusiastic individual who loves teaching and shares our dedication to excellence. The successful applicant will join a diverse close-knit department that offers bachelor's degrees in psychology, psychology with an emphasis in clinical, and a joint sports psychology program with our Kinesiology department. Although our department members are research active, Adams State
University is an institution primarily focused on teaching excellence, and the teaching load is comprised of 12 credit-hours each semester.

The position is available to start August 19, 2024.

Mission -The School for Humanities and Social Sciences meets students where they are, through equitable and inclusive education, and guides them in their exploration and analysis of the complexities of diverse cultures and societies to understand the past, lead in the present, and prepare for the future. We teach critical thinking through engagement in research, co-curricular activities, scholarship, and interpretation so students gain knowledge and understanding of what it means to be human in a changing social-political world.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in Psychology by the time the position starts.
2. A strong focus on teaching and experience teaching psychology courses at the undergraduate level including face-to-face and online delivery modalities. While we are interested in generalists, teaching responsibilities will likely encompass the following courses: Introduction to Psychology, Social
Psychology, Multicultural Psychology, Psychology of Gender, Research
Methods and Psychological Statistics.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of, sensitivity to, and ability to work effectively with the educational needs of individuals and groups with a diverse range of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and abilities in a global environment.
4. Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity of Adams State University's student population, including students with different abilities (e.g., physical and or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices
within the classroom.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Ability or evidence of potential to foster inclusive learning environments.
2. Experience working with historically under-served and/or underrepresented populations, and first-generation college students.
3. Evidence of valuing equity, treating cultural and linguistic diversity as assets, and sensitivity to and understanding of diverse students.
4. Ability or experience in the recruitment and/or retention of underrepresented students, including students of color.
5. Commitment to professional development and scholarship.
6. Commitment to service to the university, students, and community.
7. Demonstrated self-awareness of one's own cultural beliefs, perspectives, and privileges as a part of one's orientation towards teaching and leadership.
8. Demonstrated decision-making that is informed by research, data, and theory and that leverages students' unique cultures, experiences, and backgrounds as strengths.
9. Demonstrated commitment to honesty, efficacy, and collaboration.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for the position is $48,000-$51,000 commensurate with experience and education. In addition to salary, Adams State University offers a competitive benefits program including medical, dental, vision, disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
