Assistant Professor of Computer ScienceAbout Alvernia University

Position Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our faculty as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Alvernia University.  The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service within a liberal arts environment.   This is a full-time, tenure-track position with responsibilities including teaching undergraduate courses, conducting scholarly research, and participating in university and department service activities.

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and teach undergraduate courses in Computer Science, with an emphasis on foundational principles, programming, algorithms, and data structures.
  • Engage students through innovative and effective teaching methods, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and interdisciplinary connections.
  • Pursue scholarly research and contribute to the academic discourse in Computer Science through publications, conference presentations, and other scholarly activities.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students in their academic and professional development, including research projects, internships, and career opportunities.
  • Participate in departmental and university service activities, including committee work, curriculum development, and outreach efforts to promote Computer Science education.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field (must be completed by time of appointment).
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, as evidenced by teaching evaluations, syllabi, or other relevant materials.
  • Strong commitment to scholarly research, with evidence of ongoing research activities and potential for publication in peer-reviewed journals or conferences.
  • Ability to contribute to the university’s mission of fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues and engage with students from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching Computer Science courses at the undergraduate level.
  • Expertise in one ore more specialized areas of Computer Science, such as cybersecurity, software engineering, or data science.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary teaching or collaboration across academic departments.
  • Commitment to integrating ethical and social considerations into Computer Science education and research.
