UTMB's John Sealy Hospital in Galveston is home to a Level l Trauma Center, serving a nine-county area with a total population of more than 1.25 million people. UTMB's Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston opened in 2016 and offers private rooms in a patient- and family-centered environment. UTMB also provides services to the adjoining Galveston Hospital for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. More than 80 UTMB clinics at 30 locations serve the rapidly growing Bay Area and Galveston with access to a full range of primary and specialty care. Our Health System continues to grow, with a recently opened hospital in League City (a partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center) and another new hospital at the Clear Lake Campus in 2019.

Assistant Professor, Oculoplastic Reconstructive Surgeon
The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas is actively recruiting enthusiastic Oculoplastic Surgeon for immediate hire. The purpose of this position is to provide faculty support to meet the teaching, research and patient care needs of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and assist in fulfilling UTMB's threefold mission. The person in this position will be responsible for providing direct patient care, consultative services, outpatient services and care of hospitalized patients. They will participate in all teaching activities of the Department including conferences and lectures, bedside teaching, and rounds; clinics and in-patient services; continuing medical education; and local, regional, and national meetings. This person is also responsible for advancing clinical knowledge through his/her scholarly and research efforts and will participate in either basic research (laboratory) or clinical research and publication of scientific articles.

The candidate should expect to see the following cases:

  • Droopy Eyelid Surgery, including Blepharoplasty and Blepharoptosis Repair.
  • Eyelid Cancer Excision and Reconstruction.
  • Ectropion (out-turning) and Entropion (in-turning) Eyelid Repair.
  • Tear Duct Infections and Abnormalities.
  • Orbital Trauma.
  • Orbital Abnormalities, including Thyroid Eye Disease, Inflammation, Infections and Tumors.

Candidate Requirements: Candidate should be a graduate of an accredited medical school, have completed an ACGME approved residency training program in ophthalmology, with interest and training in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery, be Certified/Board Eligible in Ophthalmology and have a Texas Medical License without restrictions.
