Job description

This is a full-time, 175-day (10-month annual contract) tenure-track faculty position in the health sciences program.
The faculty member will evaluate and advise students; plan and organize instructional materials toward course objectives; participate in program review and curriculum development; review and revise content of course(s) as necessary; maintain five (5) required office hours per week for student consultation; participate in department and college activities; maintain class and examination schedules as well as grade and attendance records according to college regulations; and perform related tasks as required. The assignment may include teaching evening and weekend classes at any college site.

Allan Hancock College is a California public community college located in northern Santa Barbara County. Approximately 11,500 credit students enroll each semester at one of the college's four locations in Santa Maria, Lompoc, Santa Ynez Valley, or at Vandenberg Space Force Base. Demonstrated ability to:
  • maintain currency in the instruction of Certified Nursing Assistants
  • demonstrate a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students disabilities
  • develop and use resource materials and incorporate current computer technology and to use multi-media technology in classroom instruction
  • plan, organize, and present lecture and lesson materials and concepts and to assess student achievement
  • design, review, and evaluate curriculum and make recommendations to maintain program currency for both vocational and transfer students
  • identify and use learning outcomes and assessment that lead to course program improvements
  • work with and assist students having a broad range of skills, motivation, and academic or vocational goals
  • communicate effectively in both oral and written communication and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • course design and of evaluation and assessment methods
  • identifying and use of learning outcomes and assessment that lead to course and program improvements
  • implementing the interrelationship of critical thinking, reading, and writing
  • diverse learning styles and teaching strategies and demonstrated experience in implementing these strategies
Bachelor's degree and two years full-time experience as a Registered Nurse
OR
Associate's degree and six years full-time experience as a Registered Nurse
OR
The equivalent
AND
One year full-time experience in long-term care
AND
Teaching credential or Director of Staff Development Certificate
OR
The equivalent.
Current and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California.

BEGINNING DATE:
January 2024, pending Board approval.

Hiring salary range is $59,607 to $88,806 dependent upon education and experience.
