Position: Assistant Principal of Academics
The Assistant Principal of Academics is directly responsible to the principal and assists the principal in areas of curriculum development, academic placement and progress, professional development, scheduling, student assessment, faculty evaluation and supervision. The Assistant Principal for Academics oversees the school improvement plan and accreditation. This position helps build the school's faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate in school religious activities. The Assistant Principal of Academics makes mission-aligned decisions that further the school culture.
Specific Responsibilities
Academics
- Works with the principal in providing academic leadership for the faculty, the students, and the parents.
- Works collaboratively with the principal to ensure the overall integrity and relevance of the school's academic programs
- Assists the principal in the supervision of instruction, including teacher observations and evaluations
- Supports and holds teachers accountable for following policies and procedures set forth in the teacher and student handbook; in particular procedures for the upkeep of grades, protocols on grading and weighting of assignments, and policies for testing.
- Supports and holds teachers accountable for the use of school wide processes and programs such as Canvas and/or additional decisions.
- Oversees the implementation of the curriculum, including requested materials and supplies for the implementation of the curriculum
- Assists the principal in the development of the programs of studies inclusive of a regular review and evaluation of courses offered
- Oversees all summer academic recovery and enrichment programs
- Oversees the administration of standardized tests and the interpretation of testing data
- Assists teachers and hold teachers accountable for the use of testing data to improve teaching strategies and instruction inclusive of continuous study that tracks progress
- Is responsible for coordinating and approving the master schedule as developed by the Guidance Department
- Approves all schedule changes for students as initiated by the Guidance Department
- Oversees Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, and the WSU Tech Program
- Develops and oversees the school improvement plan and accreditation process
- Assists the principal in the professional development for teachers
- in the development and implementation of new and emerging teaching strategies
- to identify, develop and implement professional development plans based on the needs of the teaching staff
- to find appropriate growth opportunities
- to plan in-services and late starts
- Supervises the Guidance Department to ensure a comprehensive academic guidance program is in place and functioning
- Conducts an annual evaluation of the counselors and the guidance program
- In cooperation with Guidance Department and Resource Room Director, oversees the development and administration of individual learning plans
- Participates on the leadership team and attends all meetings
- Shares in the evening and weekend moderating responsibilities of administrators
- Supervises grade reporting to students and families
- Constructs and tracks honor roll, failure lists, class ranks and academic eligibility lists
- Is responsible for the annual publication of the course catalog
- Supervises the scheduling of semester and final exams
- Overseas academic parent-teacher conferences
- Develops, recommends and implements policies regarding academics as necessary
- Selects and supervises Department Chairs inclusive of providing leadership assistance though regular attendance at meetings
- Works directly with Department Chairs for the submission of course content additional and subtractions along with the proposal of new courses.
- Provides leadership to the Department Chairs through weekly and/or monthly meetings
- Collaborates with the Principal for the hire of new teachers and staff
