Honeymoon Sweets Bakery in Tempe, AZ is looking for Pastry Chef/Cake Decorator to join our 22-person strong team. We are located on 606 W Southern Ave in Tempe, Arizona near ASU and Scottsdale. Our ideal candidate is self-driven, ambitious, and hard-working and strives for excellence!
We are looking for skilled Pastry Chef to assist our Pastry Chef Owner to manage the staff and production. This Pastry Sous Chef position with good advancement opportunities for a person with culinary training and at least 3 years professional experience.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Pastry Sous Chef works with the Pastry Chef to produce menu items including desserts, pastries, and cakes according to the Honeymoon Sweets (HMS) culinary teams standards of quality. The candidate will work as part of a team within a fast-paced work environment while strictly adhering to established sanitation and safety standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Decorating Wedding Cakes and Specialty Cakes
Check production schedule routinely and establish priority items for each day and properly rotate product to avoid waste.
Meet production schedules and timelines for pastry needs
Scale, mix and bake scratch cake and cheesecake batters, and doughs for cakes, cookies, brownies and bars, breads and banquet desserts
Make buttercreams, pastry creams, mousses, caramel, and ganache.
Produce the building blocks for desserts and petite sweets.
Maintain consistently high-quality product that our clients expect
Keep pastry shop clean and organized
Pay close attention to supplies and equipment, informing the Pastry Chef of any foreseeable shortages or issues
Maintain and strictly abide by state sanitation/health regulations and HMS requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS
The pastry assistant must:
Adhere to and enforce company policies and processes, cooking methods, standard recipes, portion sizes, kitchen rules and quality criteria
Prepare all products according to food handlers guidelines and follow federal, state, and local regulations and processes relating to food preparation, storage and safety
Exhibit a strong knowledge of professional kitchen equipment, cooking skills and practices
Demonstrate self-discipline, initiative, attention to detail and leadership with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment; analyze and execute simultaneous decisions with both speed and accuracy
Possess excellent communication skills to clearly relate information and ideas, and follow written or verbal instructions quickly and accurately
Maintain a pleasant, polite manner with a neat and clean appearance
Work cooperatively and professionally with other departments, with respect to the chain of command
Be willing to work all shifts and holidays
Fulfill essential functions of the position that require long periods of standing and/or walking
Demonstrate the ability to lift 50 lbs.
Professional pastry experience required.
Associate degree in Pastry Arts from a recognized institution preferred and or any equivalent combination of related education and experience is preferred but not necessary.
Two years (2) in baking or pastry role at a high level, high volume catering, food service or hospitality industry experience is definitely a plus.
Experience and knowledge with new and cutting-edge presentation or plated desserts is also a plus.
Candidates will be asked to demonstrate food knowledge and preparation as part of the interview process
Will be required to obtain a valid Food Handlers Certification
