Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Motel Assistant Manager to oversee the daily operations of our motel and cabins. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hospitality management, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for providing exceptional guest services. As the Motel Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for supervising staff, answering phones, managing books, assisting with marketing and property management systems ensuring guest satisfaction, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and service. You will report to the Motel Manager and the 91 year old Owner who is still working.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in supervising and training motel staff, including housekeeping, and maintenance teams for the 28 unit cabin and motel complex built in 1948 and run by the same family
- Ensure efficient and smooth operation of all motel activities
- Develop and implement strategies to maximize occupancy rates and revenue
- Manage budgets, monitor expenses, and control costs to achieve financial targets
- Oversee night audit procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Maintain a high level of guest satisfaction by promptly addressing any issues or concerns
- Implement and enforce company policies and procedures
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, financial budgets and maintenance standards are met
- Collaborate with the 91 year old Owner, the Motel Manager and the rest of the Team to attract new customers and maintain relationships with existing clients
- Stay updated on industry trends and implement best practices to enhance the guest experience
Experience:
- Previous experience in a supervisory role within the hotel or motel industry
- Good knowledge of hospitality operations, including front desk procedures, marketing process, computer programs like excel and word, housekeeping standards, and maintenance protocols
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively manage a diverse team of employees
- Proficiency in understanding budgets and financial management of the property management system nightly.
- Desire to learn and process the night audit procedures
- Hands on knowledge of pools, septic, electric, general maintenance, housekeeping and grounds keeping standards is helpful
- Safety conscious
- Ability to work thoroughly and quickly under pressure.
- Sales skills – phone skills.
- Handy "man" skills are a plus
- Address guest and employee concerns
- Schedule and monitor payroll/shift coverage based on Manager and Owner guidelines
- Understand and support Owners lodging policies and procedures, and ensure that staff members follow policies and procedures accordingly.
- Work with Manager to oversee daily preparation of cashier reports, payroll and other daily, weekly and monthly reports
- Oversee the collection reports and security of monies from registration
- Maintain an accurate computerized guest registration system to include following of hospitality rules for state
- With Manager, oversee the proper order and maintenance of adequate pars of operating supplies.
- Assure timely inspections and repair of facilities - manage outside vendors as requested under the guidance of Manager and Owner
