Job Title:Assistant Grocery Manager
Reports to:Grocery Manager
Purpose: Directs, delegates, trains, leads and works alongside the Grocery staff to ensure that product is properly stored, stocked, rotated, labeled and faced. Serves as a member of Grocery management team and provides effective back up to the Grocery Manager by assuming designated responsibilities in their absence.
Status Full time, Hourly
Hours: 35-40 Hours Weekly
Primary Responsibilities
Personnel:
Having a well-trained and effective staff is essential to the smooth functioning of the Grocery. The Grocery Assistant Manager will take a lead role in training, educating, motivating and generally overseeing the grocery staff.
· Set a positive example for employees by fulfilling customer service expectations set forth for all staff.
· Coordinate and participate in the training of grocery workers.
· Participate in departmental meetings.
· Assist in planning the weekly schedule and arranging coverage for staff vacations and sick days.
· Supervise and coach staff in proper stocking and merchandising procedures, paying close attention to rotation of goods and presentation.
· Monitor staff performance to ensure all staff are following department policies and procedures. Intervene and assist where necessary.
· Inform performance evaluations in consultation with the Grocery Manager.
Operations Management:
· Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures for key processes and procedures for Grocery, Perishables, Bulk and Wellness as delegated by CSM.
· Document and implement cleaning & maintenance schedules and procedures.
· Develop and implement safety and training resources.
· Coordinate scheduled sales and promotional changeover with staff.
· Maintain effective documentation for systems and processes within the department, vendor information, customer requests, team meetings, etc.
· Continued development of written training plans for new Grocery/Bulk stockers with 1st week, 30 day and 60-day check-in for orientation.
· Identify and communicate systemic issues and communication breakdowns to Grocery Manager.
Purchasing:
This position is envisioned as allowing for up to 2 days a week dedicated to purchasing and informing the product mix of a sub department, at the discretion of the Grocery Manager. In that capacity, the position has these responsibilities.
· Order product in quantities adequate to maintain fully stocked sets, while keeping inventory low enough to ensure optimal freshness, and to keep backstock to a minimum.
· Review product receiving to ensure that accurate invoicing, pricing, credits and returns, and coding has taken place.
· Communicate any difficulties with vendors or products to the Grocery Management team.
· Break down and back stock deliveries that are not immediately stocked.
· Set an example for and assist with the training of new stockers.
· Assist the grocery staff in proper stocking and merchandising procedures, paying close attention to rotation of goods and presentation.
Promotional/Merchandising:
In this role, the Assistant Manager will be expected to coordinate with staff for biweekly and other sales and promotions as needed, to include the following:
· Act as Promotions Liaison on behalf of Grocery Management in coordination with front end staff to ensure sales goals are met and reported accordingly.
· Update of applicable sales and promotional marketing materials, including fliers, product tags, posters, etc. throughout the store.
· Plan end cap resets in conjunction with rotating biweekly preset sales to represent products to be showcased.
· Communicate with buyers to ensure product selection is appropriate for end cap planning.
· Work with marketing team to prepare any necessary marketing or social media materials in advance.
· Keep a forward-focused mindset on upcoming seasonal changes and holidays to include in adset planning.
Administration:
· Work with the Grocery Manager to achieve long and short-term goals for department sales, margin, labor expense and net profit.
· Perform select Grocery Manager duties in their absence.
· Other projects as time permits with the support of Grocery Manager.

Pay: $19.61 per hour
