Summary: Under basic supervision, assists the Golf Operations Manager to organize and coordinate the operations at the Ratliff Ranch Golf Links for the Parks & Recreation (P&R) Department; oversees operations of the pro shop, collects and accounts for green fees, assists with coordinating special events.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assists the Golf Operations Manager to oversee pro shop operations; coordinates tasks to maintain a level of service to keep pace with customer needs and requests.
- Manages the operations of Golf Course and golf shop; assigns tee times for daily Golf Course use and coordinates play; updates and maintains golf handicap system.
- Greets Golf Course guests and provides prompt, courteous and friendly customer service; responds to requests for information and explains rules, policies and procedures.
- Collects green fees and cart rental fees, accurately accounts for funds received and reconciles cash register sales with daily sales report; prepares accounting reports for receipts and deposits as directed.
- Oversees merchandising, purchasing, pricing, and display and inventory control for golf shop merchandise.
- Assists with planning and management of golf programs and tournaments; assists with promotion and marketing plans to effectively present golf tournaments and recreation services to residents and guests.
- Works with the Golf Course maintenance crews to assure a professional and healthy Golf Course.
- Conducts group and individual golf lessons and clinics; provides professional instruction to golfers on proper form, technique and selection of appropriate equipment; plans and manages player participation programs; provides technical advice on the rules of golf.
- Provides information, instructions and assistance to the public; manages public relations efforts with advocates, advisory groups and community organizations.
- Promotes and enforces safety rules and regulations and P&R policies.
- Schedules and trains staff, and assigns work.
- Must have and maintain a cell phone for City use to hold this position.
- Supports the divisional operations with regular and timely attendance.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High School diploma or GED required. A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Recreation Management or related filed is highly desired. Two years' experience in Golf Course management and retail merchandising preferred but not mandatory.
Knowledge of:
- State and federal laws governing parks and public recreation facilities.
- Policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct and safety of public recreation program.
- Rules, regulations, player responsibilities, sportsmanship, etiquette and traditions of the game of golf.
- Principles of marketing and organizing sports competition and tournaments.
- Sports merchandising, sales psychology, sports fashion trends and golf equipment trends.
- Golf course and turf maintenance principles and techniques.
Skill in:
- Interpreting customer needs and solving customer service and public relation issues.
- Playing the games of golf and instructing all phases of the game to others.
- Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
- Using initiative and independent judgement within established procedural guidelines.
- Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with co-workers and clients.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
License and certification requirements: A Texas State Driver's license is required. Certification as a Class A member of the Professional Golf Association (PGA) or a Class B PGA Associate already preferred. Otherwise, qualified candidate MUST be willing to enter the PGA Associate program within a year of employment.
