Pay: $45,000-55,000 annually

About Kitchen United:
Kitchen United is a new-to-the-world multi-unit concept that meets at the intersection of three food megatrends: localization, delivery, and quality production. Kitchen United provides the commercial kitchen infrastructure to enable big restaurant brands to get closer to their customers as well as all types of restaurants to optimize their footprint for off-premise dining occasions. At our Chicago Loop location we are looking for an Assistant General Manager that has a very extensive bartending background or work experience.
About the Role:
Kitchen United is looking for an Assistant General Manager (AGM) for our Chicago Loop (CDT) location which has one of our most diverse layouts. We have a Coffee bar as well as working on building out K.U.'s first full service bar. This Kitchen Center has a full bar and ideally the AGM we hire will need to have bartending experience as you will be the subject matter expert for all things bar. As an accomplished food-service leader, you will be accountable for running food safe facilities, staffing and developing service oriented team members, and handling a variety of tasks (planned & unplanned) that come with being an operational superstar. The AGM will act as the right hand to the General Manager for our Chicago Loop (CDT) location. You’ll be responsible for managing your team and the Kitchen Center, extending out the principles of excellent service, working with 5-10 restaurant brands all operating under one roof. Similarly, you’ll be interacting with Delivery Service Provider drivers, guests that visit our front of house and vendors that help keep your center running smoothly. It’s an important role and one which demands a lot of strong leadership qualities and operational expertise. Your top 3 priorities are as follows:
- Direct your Team members to provide memorable experiences for your guests, teams, and members
- Use discretion and independent judgment to support your General Manager
- Optimize, train, and manage our full service bar.
In this role, you can expect to:
Operations (35%)
- Coordinating and managing all activity associated with the operational objectives of each Kitchen Center
- Overseeing weekly inventory and ordering of cleaning and operating supplies and confirming amounts and types of materials, supplies, and machinery to be used when necessary.
- Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy environment by:
- establishing, following, and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures;
- complying with legal regulations; developing and implementing disaster plans;
- by reinforcing Department of Health and Labor law regulations
- enforces systems, policies, and procedures.
- Fostering great relationships and assisting with restaurant partners, 3rd party delivery drivers, vendors and being a key part of our member services team providing excellent support to our member “partners”.
- Owning service in your center and training, coaching and mentoring your team to provide best in class service at all times.
- Addressing guest, and restaurant partner concerns and issues in real time.
Results & Operations (35%)
- Provide ongoing training and development for internal teams
- Coordinate and manage all activity associated to the operational objectives of each Kitchen Center
- Lead your team members in achieving Kitchen United’s service standards, operating processes and standards of excellence.
- Maintain a professional and accountable Kitchen Center environment at all times.
- Ensure Pete's Coffee and the Bar (Alcohol sales) section are ran with fully trained team members who meet all best practices and certifications/trainings needed to work in these two areas.
- The Assistant General Manager will need to be able to maintain a Manager's license with the City of Chicago for Alcohol sales, as they would oversee responsibility of the bar.
- Builds effective relationships with all team members, restaurant partners, and corporate support partners.
- Fosters great relationships and assists with 3rd party delivery drivers, vendors and being a key part of our operations team providing excellent support to our member “partners”.
- Maintain the kitchen center facility by ensuring that all preventive maintenance services are scheduled and performed and by reacting to emergency repairs in a timely manner.
- Delivers financial & customer metrics by monitoring member satisfaction, restaurant sales, forecasting requirements; consumer reviews; optimizing labor schedules & overtime utilization; inventory control, waste management and more.
- Exemplifies a high standard of service that permeates across the entire team to keep kitchen members (cooks); drivers & guests happy & content with their Kitchen United experience.
- Conduct new restaurant member on-boarding and orientation activities to aid the transition of a restaurant into a Kitchen United center. Scheduling tours, conducting new member orientations and leading the restaurant on-boarding process (including receiving signed agreements, filing of proper documentation, utility management and facility administration).
- Maintain productive and cordial relationships with all restaurant partners and their staff. Escalating any onsite conduct issues to the appropriate parties.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment by establishing, following, and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures; complying with local, state & federal legal regulations; developing and implementing disaster plans; maintaining security and sprinkler systems; maintaining parking lots and walkways.
- Abide by all local, state & federal labor laws and seek assistance where required from head office.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed as it relates to the General Manager role.
Supervisory (30%)
- Participating in recruiting, interviewing, selecting and onboarding new employees.
- Providing input and creating a weekly staff schedule and managing shift changes, sick calls, over time etc.
- Assisting General Manager in the performance management process. Including but not limited to: disciplining employees in accordance with Kitchen United’s work expectations policy and administering disciplinary action, including termination, as appropriate.
- Addressing employee, guest, and restaurant partner concerns and issues in real time.
- Supporting the development of the team by leading through example and coaching the values and traits that we seek in all of our excellent Kitchen United employees.
- Assisting with training, coaching and delegating and apportioning work to your team to meet the highest of standards in service, cleanliness, food safety and task completion while providing clear direction & support to deliver them.
- Motivating your team to understand their role and team culture that we live & breathe while incentivizing and rewarding the best performers for outstanding contribution.
- Inputting emergency work orders when needed to rectify facilities issues in real time.
Requirements
- Proven record of 3-5 years managing a team(s) within the restaurant, retail, hospitality, and operations industries.
- High energy levels with an ability to multitask, provide direction and handle ambiguity with ease.
- Developed, motivated and shaped a team for success through recruitment, training, delegation, scheduling & coaching skills.
- You will need to have or acquire your Serv Safe Managers certification, City of Chicago certification, and Food Handlers certification.
- Impeccable communicator with the ability to navigate varying audiences.
- A process mindset with a keen eye for details and excellence in execution.
- Have worked in a B2B/B2C environment – e.g., franchising, shared workplace.
- Capability to use technology to interpret data, delegate tasks, communicate with a cross functional team and head office.
- A thirst for knowledge, a curiosity to learn more and a willingness to try new things to improve the business and/ or identify operational efficiencies.
