The Assistant General Counsel supports Aerojet Rocketdyne, Inc. and its two principal operating units: the Defense Business Unit, headquartered at Huntsville, AL, and the Space Business Unit, headquartered at Canoga Park, CA, each with several operating sites across the country.
As an in-house legal resource, the Assistant General Counsel will have three primary areas of responsibility: (1) firewall compliance; (2) cybersecurity compliance; and (3) privacy compliance.
The Assistant General Counsel will work cooperatively with other AR counsel, as well as independently with client representatives. The Assistant General Counsel also will be involved in government contracts, commercial contracts, litigation and claims, and related areas such as compliance, mergers and acquisitions, and other transactions.
This position will be located at our Defense Business Unit headquarters in Huntsville, AL, or at the Washington Operations Office in Arlington, VA. Remote work from these locations may be considered.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
60% Firewall compliance officer. Bears overall responsibility for ensuring all Defense Business Unit firewalls comply with applicable Defense Business Unit command media and applicable firewall plans. The firewall compliance officer also bears overall responsibility for firewall compliance record retention and storage. Will lead or assist with training personnel regarding firewall compliance.
20% Cybersecurity compliance. Provide advice and counsel to the Chief Information Officer, the Information Technology Department, and other stakeholders in the Defense and Space Business Units. Areas of responsibility will include: (1) policy and regulatory interpretation including changes in rules; (2) contract review and negotiation; (3) analysis of claims; and (4) resolution of contract disputes. Will lead or assist with training personnel regarding cybersecurity compliance, including with respect to U.S. government contracts.
20% Privacy compliance. Oversee and administer Aerojet Rocketdyne's privacy program. Will lead or assist with training personnel on privacy compliance.
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and a Juris Doctor degree, along with 14 years of progressive experience in privacy and cybersecurity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Specific and relevant experience in compliance with privacy laws such as CPRA and GDPR and as a firewall administrator is required. Experience in auditing, researching or investigating complex matters and with compliance or other regulatory matters is a significant plus.
Must have the ability to travel to various Aerojet Rocketdyne sites from time to time and must be capable of handling a broad workload, variable deadlines and be adaptable to a variety of special assignments in the execution of the function.
Candidates must have strong communications, analytical, negotiations, and problem solving skills.
May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
