The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division's responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists. The Office of Research, Implementation & Safety (RIS) is looking for a candidate for the position of Project Lead - Safety Projects & Programs. RIS implements road safety street redesigns, programs and is also responsible for the management of DOT's crash data, conducts large-scale safety research projects, is lead on many agency action plans and is the key agency group for Vision Zero programs and policy. This is an opportunity to work within RIS, a team dedicated to improving road safety and eliminating fatalities and serious injuries throughout New York City.
RIS is seeking an ambitious and motivated individual for this Assistant Director position. The selected candidate will report to the Director of Safety Projects and Programs (SPP) and be part of the leadership team. The Asst. Director will; be a part of the Street Improvement Project (SIP) Development team helping identify SIP priorities, requiring the analyzation of Vision Zero Priority geographies, Senior Pedestrian Zones, NYC Street Plan, and recent crash trends to identify new project locations for the team to determine where future SIP work should focus, manage SIP Bike Network and Transit Network coordination and will also be assigned high-profile Vision Zero Priority Projects as needed by the Director. The Assistant Director will also be required to perform community outreach, including meeting with public officials, Community Boards, inter-and intra-agency members, and other stakeholders, as well as preparing and giving presentations to various groups. Other tasks for this position include reports/graphics and creating maps; conducting on-site evaluations of safety and traffic conditions; providing technical assistance to senior staff; and tracking and coordinating project planning and implementation.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience project managing traffic Safety Projects, with at least two years of this experience occurring at a senior level and must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the necessary planning, design development, outreach, and implementation management necessary for successful traffic Safety Projects which improve safety for pedestrians, motor vehicles, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and micromobility. A demonstrated past of being able to work under high-profile conditions and meet deadlines, involving project and program management, research, data analysis, implementation coordination, and field work is preferred. The ideal candidate should be detail oriented, accurate, a capable team player, and possess excellent communication skills.

Preferred Skills
Preferred candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, AutoCAD, GIS, and Adobe Creative Suite. 5 years of experience in project management of traffic Safety Projects which include NYCDOT standards of traffic calming, urban design, pedestrian-oriented design, complete streets, and traffic engineering required. Excellent writing, editing, oral presentation, and community outreach skills a must. Preference will be given to candidates possessing a valid NYS Driver's License.

This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

Hours/Shift: 35 hrs / 9 am to 5 pm
Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning; or
2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to "1"" above. Graduate
education in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.
Special Qualification Requirements
Assignment Level III
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, one additional year of professional experience as described in "2" above.
Assignment Level IV
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, two additional years of professional experience as described in "2" above.
