Position Summary
Employee performs administrative and supervisory work in managing staff functions and evaluate the effectiveness of the care provided to clientele. The position maintains the responsibility and accountability for client care, nursing staff, and performs duties in accordance with established regulations, policies, nursing standards, and medical instructions.
Relationships and Contacts
Within the organization: Maintains frequent and close working relationships with the facility Executive Director, National Director of Admissions, Nursing team, Milieu Supervisor, facility leadership, peers, and vendors.
Outside the organization: May initiate and maintain working relationships with clinical providers, referral partners, clients and vendors as needed and directed.
Position Responsibilities
Essential Responsibilities
- Supports and demonstrates practices consistent with the mission, philosophy, standards, policies, and procedures of the Lifeskills South Florida’s nursing Department.
- Assists the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day functions of the facility in accordance with current regulations and guidelines that govern the facility.
- Participates in developing, maintaining, and updating the written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the facility.
- Serves as the nursing administrative resource and leader for the facility in the absence of Director of Nursing.
- Delegates clinical and managerial responsibilities to nursing staff. Supervises and assesses staffing needs for the shift and allocates nursing personnel accordingly.
- Recommends staffing patterns to the Director of Nursing and oversees the daily staffing schedule. Serves as a resource to staff in clinical and managerial decision making.
- Assures nursing staff complies with facility policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. Identifies problems and reports and makes recommendations for addressing these problems to the Director of Nursing through a review of Nursing documentation and periodic QA audits.
- Interviews applicants for position vacancies and makes hiring recommendations to the Director of Nursing.
- Collaborates with unit nurse managers/off shift supervisors in the performance evaluations of employees; makes promotion and termination recommendations to the Directo of Nursing.
- Disciplines Nursing staff and consults with unit nurse manager/off shift supervisors regarding disciplinary actions.
- Communicates problems and needs to other departments. Assists with managing documentation and investigates incidents and accidents. Participates in developing, implementing, and revising the facility’s quality assurance program.
- Assists and participates in activities related to facility inspection or investigation by regulatory or accrediting agencies. Conducts meetings to communicate information and changes or additions in policies and procedures.
- Prepares written and oral reports for the Director of Nursing.
- Participates in the development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of client care plans.
- Assures staff is implementing care plans, delivering care appropriately, and recognizing changes in clients status.
- Complete payroll as needed and monitors and follows up on employee attendance as required.
- Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in emergency situations including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.
Additional Responsibilities
- Conducts occasional reviews with insurance companies.
- Coordinates and oversees administration of annual vaccines.
- Responsible for being on-call as scheduled.
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
Position requires a bachelor’s degree in nursing, active state Registered Nurse license, and 5+ years of experience Nursing/Clinical Experience. Previous mental health treatment experience strongly preferred.
Must maintain current CPI, CPR/1st Aid/ AED certification.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to communicate with peers/general public, clients and/or vendors.
- Tolerant to various noise levels: noise level in the work environment varies – may be very quiet to moderate.
- Job performance will require the ability to move throughout the building as well as sit or remain stationary for extended periods of time.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to talk or hear, sit, stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste or smell.
- Ability to move up to 25 pounds.
