Position Title:          Assistant Director of Nursing

Department:              Training and Development

Supervisor:                Executive Director

Position:  Exempt

Salary: $114,000-$120,500 annually

Essential Duties and Responsibilities.

(Other duties may be assigned).

 

  1. Plans, conducts and evaluates organized orientation and training programs for all newly hired employees which are scheduled on a regular basis.
  2. Supervises direct nursing care in the Health Center.
  3. Makes routine rounds to assure proper care and a safe, clean resident environment.
  4. Supervises nursing personnel on all shifts.  Participates in staffing, scheduling, counseling, orientation, and evaluation of Nursing staff.
  5. Assists with orientation of Nursing personnel.
  6. Being on call is required
  7. Notifies physician and family of changes in resident's condition.
  8. Encourages rehabilitative techniques in order to restore residents' independence.
  9. Assures proper functioning of medical equipment and adequate medical supplies.
  10. Assists DON in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
  11. Assists in infection control, safety and pharmacy rounds and audits.
  12. Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
  13. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
  14. Plans the annual and monthly training program calendar in collaboration with other facility management team members.
  15. Plans and coordinates management training programs with guidance from the Director of Human Resources.
  16. Recruits instructors with expertise in the appropriate discipline to improve and develop skills of employees.  Utilizes community resources for training programs.
  17. Assists in the planning and coordination of training programs for all departments within the facility to respond to identified problem areas, service quality or to teach new procedures or methods.
  18. Maintains appropriate training records and program materials as required by federal and state regulations.
  19. Provide specific orientation to Health Center nursing staff including completion of the clinical skills check-list.
  20. Monitors outcome of employee training sessions with regard to skills taught and session evaluations.
  21. Develops, maintains and upgrades the standards for policies and procedures for the Training and Development Department.
  22. Participates in the budget for Training and Development.  Submits monthly variance reports to the Business Office.
  23. Serves on the Quality Assurance Committee, CQI Committee, Safety Committee and Infection Control Committee and other committees as assigned. 
  24. Coordinates the activities of students engaged in learning programs within the facility from various learning institutions.
  25. Schedules employee annual physicals and Tuberculosis screening and maintains records of same.
  26. Is the backup Infection Preventionists
  27. Verifies licensure of licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants upon hire and ensures that these licenses are current during employment in the facility.
  28. Assists in the effective operations of Arbol Residences of Santa Rosa.      Participates in any relevant facility activities.  Collaborates with other department managers in the development, management, and operation of Arbol Residences.
  29. Assumes a proactive role in resolving resident issues & concerns related to assigned areas of responsibility.
  30. Provides input to PCC/IDT team through personal observations and those of staff regarding changes in resident condition.
  31. Has on call responsibilities for the Health Center.
  32. During emergencies or other natural disasters, may be required to report for duty as assigned by the Administrator or Executive Director for the duration of the disaster.
  33. Functions under intense time pressure.
  34. Contributes to a positive, healthy, and safe working environment.
  35. Works as a member of the team.
  36. Gets along well with co-workers.
  37. Accepts change in a positive manner.
  38. Performs any other relevant duties as assigned.

 

Here are a few of the qualifications we need you to have:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

 

  1. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  Current licensure by the California Board of Registered Nursing or LVN required.  Two years of training and development experience in long term care required; knowledge of Title 22 and OBRA regulations. Must obtain DSD certification within 3 months of hire. Must obtain IP certification within 3 months of hire.
  2. Current CPR certification. Geriatric/rehabilitation experience with a good understanding of restorative nursing.      Supervisory experience preferred

 

  1. LANGUAGE SKILLS:        Ability to read, write and speak effectively in English.

 

  1. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Basic mathematical skills required.

 

  1. REASONING ABILITY:    Ability to understand, follow and support established policies and procedures of the facility; ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately; ability to plan, organize and prioritize assignments efficiently; ability to work effectively with minimum supervision; ability to adapt teaching to the situation and diversity of learners.

 

  1. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Current CPR certification. Computer literacy encouraged.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills.  Leadership and teaching skills required.  Understanding and empathy of the uniqueness of the needs of the elderly required.
