ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates the work efforts of the various divisions of the department to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of services to the public.
- Oversees daily operations of special events, aquatics, programs, senior services, and related transportation.
- Reviews, manages, and approves budget expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Reviews and determines priorities of specific projects in accordance with department objectives.
- Monitors status of various projects and makes adjustments to these projects as needed to assure the effective and efficient completion of various department work functions.
- Assists in the supervision and training of professional, technical and clerical personnel; reviews and approves related payroll.
- Completes studies, updates files, prepares plans and reports, and makes recommendations with respect to future projects.
- Organizes, maintains, and updates files for City contracts and related documents.
- Reviews and edits written materials and publications of staff.
- Handles patron complaints and customer service concerns.
- Assists with the preparation of long range plans for various department functions.
- Assists in various administrative duties as required.
- Attends required meetings.
- Performs related work as required.
Requirements
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school
- Bachelor's degree in park and recreation administration or a closely related field preferred
- PROOF OF THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF COMPLETED EDUCATION MUST BE SUBMITTED AS AN ATTACHMENT WITH APPLICATION. (Applications without attached proof of education will not be processed for consideration.)
- Five (5) years of work experience in administering and managing Leisure Services, park, and recreation systems, preferably in planning, organizing, and directing recreational activities for a government entity
- Certification as a Parks and Recreation Professional/Executive (CPRP/CPRE) is preferred or must have the ability to obtain within six (6) months of appointment
- Knowledge of Rec Trac software preferred
- Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Must obtain a valid Florida driver's license prior to hire

- The ability to perceive and differentiate visual cues or signals. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Work is performed in various environments including standard office setting and at various public locations within the City. Shifts and work hours may include evenings, weekends and holidays. Employee must have the ability to work outdoors including intense or inclement weather conditions.
