Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Fleet Maintenance is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair operations of SalSon’s fleet of vehicles, including trucks, trailers, and other transportation equipment. They ensure that the fleet remains in optimal working condition to support efficient and safe transportation operations. This role involves managing maintenance staff, implementing preventive maintenance programs, coordinating repairs, and maintaining accurate records.
Description of Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Fleet Maintenance Management: Oversee the maintenance and repair operations for the company’s fleet of vehicles, ensuring compliance with maintenance schedules, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
· Preventive Maintenance Programs: Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to proactively identify and address maintenance needs, including scheduled inspections, routine servicing, and component replacements.
· Repair Coordination: Coordinate and prioritize repairs with internal maintenance staff or external service providers to minimize downtime and maximize fleet availability.
· Budget Management: Manage the Fleet Maintenance budget, including tracking expenses, negotiating service contracts, and optimizing maintenance costs while ensuring high-quality repairs and maintenance.
· Staff Supervision: Provide leadership and guidance to maintenance staff, including mechanics, technicians, and support personnel, ensuring effective teamwork, training, and performance management.
· Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repair histories, parts inventory, work orders, and maintenance schedules.
· Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards, conducting regular safety inspections, implementing safety protocols, and promoting a culture of safety within the maintenance department.
· Equipment Procurement: Collaborate with procurement teams to select and purchase vehicles and equipment, considering reliability, cost-effectiveness, and operational requirements.
· Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and increased operational efficiency within the Fleet Maintenance function.
· Vendor Management: Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors, such as parts suppliers, service providers, and equipment manufacturers, ensuring timely and cost-effective support for maintenance needs.
Qualifications
Education / Training
· A bachelor’s degree in a related field such as engineering or automotive technology is preferred, or equivalent work experience.
Work Experience
· 7 + years of relevant work experience in Fleet Maintenance, including supervisory or managerial roles, is highly desirable.
· Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, maintenance practices, and repair procedures, including familiarity with diesel engines, electrical systems, transmissions, and other components.
· Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team, delegate tasks effectively, and resolve conflicts.
· Proficient in budget management, cost control, and financial analysis related to Fleet Maintenance operations.

· Excellent communication skills to interact with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and maintenance staff. Ability to collaborate and coordinate with other departments, such as operations, procurement, and safety.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify trends, diagnose maintenance issues, and implement effective solutions.
· Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
· Familiarity with relevant regulations and compliance requirements in the transportation industry, such as DOT regulations and environmental standards.
Environmental Requirements
· Work is primarily conducted in an office setting but will require regular visits to maintenance facilities or repair shops.
