How you make a difference in this role:

The Assistant Director of the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives will provide data tracking and reporting for Lifeline Peer Project, Hybrid Lifeline Peer Project, Faith-Based Coordinators, and the Collegiate Recovery Initiative, assistance in the expanding the knowledge of Certified Faith-Based Recovery Partners and Recovery Friendly Campuses as well as supporting the growth of the teams within the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives (OFBI). This will include working closely with institutions and communities of all faiths, other state agencies, and project coordinators.

OFBI VISION & MISSION

The vision of the Faith-Based Initiative is to partner with and leverage Tennessee’s faith-based communities to increase outreach, build recovery pathways, and provide an educated, welcoming, and supportive place for individuals struggling with mental health and substance use issues so they may find help and hope on their pathway to recovery. The mission of the Faith-Based initiative is to educate all 12,000 of Tennessee’s faith-based institutions about the brain science of substance use disorder, the basics of mental health challenges, and the resources available to help, so each can become a Certified Faith-Based Recovery Partner and Tennesseans struggling with behavioral health challenges can find sanctuary within the faith community and a safe place to pursue recovery.


Job Overview:

OUR GOALS

  • Connect individuals struggling with behavioral health challenges to treatment
  • Facilitate understanding of treatment and recovery
  • Increase knowledge of mental health challenges and substance misuse
  • Spread awareness of the Faith-Based Initiative certification and its requirements
  • Help others understand the continuum of care and collaborate with it
  • Help groups understand and implement the best practice model
  • Promote and improve the effectiveness of the faith-based initiative in bridging the gap between the faith community and recovery support services


Key responsibilities:

Specific Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining data tracking systems, procuring data from all team members, and disseminating completed monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports for each project
  • Ensuring coordinator teams are equipped to effectively perform, within project scopes, duties across the state which may include the following:
  • Encouraging communication and collaboration between projects
  • Exemplifying healthy boundaries and self-care techniques
  • Providing access to an expanding list of Evidence-Based and Evidence-Informed training opportunities for the teams and communities as well as examples of effective presentations
  • Supporting coordinators in establishing a base knowledge of event coordination utilizing community and state resources to meet the needs of the area
  • Assisting the team in improved treatment navigation protocols by providing examples of effective baseline assessments without the utilization of Protected Health Information (PHI), grant funded treatment provider lists, recovery housing lists, available funding for diverse populations seeking referrals, as well as the ability to refer clients to more appropriate resources
  • Preparing the groundwork for faith-based recovery coalitions with the support of existing preventions coalitions and assisting underserved communities with access to prevention and recovery services
  • Assisting in routine budgetary tasks and contract monitoring
  • Establishing interagency collaboration and partnerships to provide a more robust resource network and level of care across the state
  • Creating and enhancing collaborative partnerships with other Tennessee State Government departments including the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, human services, health, and other relevant agencies
  • Representing TDMHSAS in matters related to behavioral health services and their inherent connection with the faith community
  • The Assistant Director of the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives will be the conduit by which the work and efficacy of the initiative are made known. The Assistant Director will help provide an ever-increasing level of education and understanding concerning behavioral health challenges and recovery to groups and individuals across the state of Tennessee. The individual will also be involved in improving the holistic wellbeing of the team.
  • The Assistant Director of the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives position will report directly to the Director of the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives.


Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services or related field.
  • 1+ years of proven experience partnering with various communities and recovery resources.
  • In possession of or eligible for the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) Certification.
  • Strong, clear, and concise oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage workload to meet specific timeframes and deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic, professionalism, and the ability to lead a diverse team at various points in their recovery journey.
  • Innovative thinking and problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Fluent in behavioral health system of care operations while utilizing diverse resources to best meet the needs of community/individual.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in a human services or related field.
  • Proficient in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • 3+ years of professional supervisory experience.
