The Opportunity:
The Assistant Director, International Student Services operates at a high level in supporting the Director in providing results-oriented management and administration of the international advising team. This includes oversight of our direct International Student Services such as: employment authorization requests, open advising sessions, and cultural/educational program offerings. This position is responsible for procedural compliance and enhanced student support within the international advising team and is tasked with creating, planning, and implementing services and programs which inform and empower the International Student community. The Assistant Director functions as the Director in the Director's absence.
Responsibilities:
- Directly manages the staff of the international advising team. Responsible for performance appraisals, performance management, staff training, and regular coaching.
- Leads the day-to-day operations of the advising team and Student Services, including student advising sessions and student request management.
- Coordinates with campus offices to provides immigration guidance and cultural support to students of concern, students experiencing financial hardship, and students on academic probation.
- Serves as a SEVIS Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for International Students, exchange visitors, and their dependents. Interprets federal regulations, SEVP policies, and institutional policies and applies them across the university's international population.
- Runs regular compliance reports and communicates with students, tracks student progress toward status maintenance, and updates university stakeholders accordingly.
- Hosts, along with team members, cultural programs and informational workshops offered to International Students.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience with at least 1+ year(s) of leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience serving a multicultural/multi-ethnic student population.
- Experience with Immigration and Customs Enforcement SEVIS database.
- Experience working in an international office at an institution of higher education.
