The primary purpose of the Assistant Director (AD) position is to manage multiple GAO engagement teams by overseeing the completion of GAO engagements designed to determine whether agency financial statements are fairly stated, evaluate the effectiveness of agencies' internal controls, and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of government policies, programs and operations.Qualifications: You must have a minimum of 52 weeks of GAO experience at Band II, Band IIB, or equivalent experience in another banded pay plan (i.e., PA-II, PT-III, and MS-I) by the effective date of change to higher level.Education:
You must meet one of the following:
- I have a degree in accounting or auditing.
- I have a degree that includes auditing courses in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. NOTE: The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.
- I have 1.) at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge and 2.) twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. NOTE: This can include up to 6 hours of business law.
- I have 1.) at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge and 2.) a certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination.
- I have 1.) at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge and 2.) I completed the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing--for example, 15 semester hours--but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hours in accounting.
