The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Office of Human Resources provides comprehensive Human Resources programs and services that enable the Adams School of Dentistry to achieve its mission.
Position Summary
This position serves as the Assistant Dean for Human Resources within the Adams School of Dentistry ( ASOD). The primary focus of this position is to provide leadership and strategic planning for Human Resources. In this capacity, the position is responsible for providing leadership for the Human Resources operations and support across all employee types including faculty and non-faculty employees, student employees, graduate teaching assistants, post-doctoral scholars and temporary employees. This includes interpretation of University HR policies, providing consultation and advice on HR issues and concerns, and developing and implementing both local and the institution's HR strategies and plans within the work unit. The Assistant Dean serves as the principal liaison between the ASOD and key University central offices regarding HR-related matters including the Office of Human Resources ( OHR), Academic Personnel, the EOC Office, University Payroll Services, International Student and Scholar Services, and the Office of University Counsel.
The position will supervise the Human Resources team (currently 5) and the Executive Assistant. The Assistant Dean is responsible for assuring that the unit's personnel actions and activities are compliant with relevant Federal, State, and University policies and support the institution's equal opportunity and diversity goals. The position will be responsible for integrating HR best practices within the ASOD and will actively participate in the ASOD's management team and the University's Carolina HR Council. Success in this position will rely on the ability to skillfully navigate between the roles of strategic advisor and functional expert in order to support all areas of the employee experience and the overall business needs of the ASOD. The Assistant Dean serves as both a strategic advisor who champions and fosters the School's mission and vision and as a transactional manager who is actively involved in daily operational human resource functions and activities. As a functional manager, leading a team of 6 full-time staff, the Assistant Dean will clearly define roles and responsibilities across the team and effectively manage the team's performance to ensure optimum HR service delivery.
