The School of Pharmacy has an exciting opening for a Chief Advancement Officer. This is a full-time permanent position.
The Chief Advancement Officer at the School of Pharmacy will play a pivotal role in partnering with the Dean of the School of Pharmacy in building a new era at the School of Pharmacy. Dean Panyam, who joined the School in August 2023, has an exciting vision for the future of the School and needs a creative, innovative and passionate partner who can help build the future alongside him. This role will ensure the School's Advancement efforts are in alignment with the University's missions and goals.
The Chief Advancement Officer will establish long- and short-term fundraising strategies for the School's Advancement activities, regularly evaluate fundraising programs, assess progress toward goals, and report results to leadership and key stakeholders. The role will provide strategy and counsel to the Dean and members of senior administration in support of efforts to identify, engage, solicit and steward major donors, School of Pharmacy Advisory Board Members, friends, alumni, community as well as corporate and foundation leaders. The School has a rich history of engagement, and this role will play a key role in stewarding relationships to yield the largest impact for the School.
What You Will Do:
Leadership and Team management (30%)
• Provide leadership for the School's Advancement team, which includes marketing and communications, corporate and foundation relations, major giving, planned giving and annual giving. Manage a team of advancement professionals who build strong and mutually beneficial relationships between the School (Dean, faculty and staff) and external audiences, including donors, alumni, community members and corporations and foundations.
• Create and manage the budget of the School's Advancement team with discretionary authority.
Strategy Development (20%)
• As part of the University-wide Advancement planning process, and in concert with the Dean of the School of Pharmacy and VP for Development, establish long- and short-term fundraising strategies for the School's Advancement activities.
• Regularly evaluate fundraising programs, assess progress toward goals and report on results. Cultivate close relationships with Central Advancement in service of securing private support for the School.
Frontline Fundraising (30%)
• Manage a portfolio of individual major gift prospects. Develop and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for each assigned prospect. Prepare written proposals, endowment agreements and other materials needed to secure individual, corporate and foundation as well as planned gifts. Prepare briefings and support for all leadership and principal gift donor contacts for the Dean.
• Oversee the development of engagement strategies for volunteer and advisory boards on behalf of the School as appropriate. Build strong and mutually beneficial relationships between the School (Dean, faculty, and staff) and external audiences.
• Provide strategy and counsel to the Dean and members of senior administration to mutually plan and share information in support of efforts to identify, engage, solicit and steward major donors, SOP Advisory Board Members, friends, alumni, community as well as corporate and foundation leaders.
Program Development and Management (20%)
• Direct and implement the School's Advancement programs, including annual gifts, major and planned gifts, corporate and foundation gifts, donor recognition and stewardship. Develop strategies and direct the School's external outreach activities with the goal of building and significantly expanding the School's base of fundraising constituents.
• In collaboration with the School's marketing and communications team, provide strategic direction on a communications plan that promotes the fundraising and advancement objectives of the School. Collaborate on the School's advancement outreach efforts to significant external audiences and constituencies.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• A bachelor's degree AND a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in institutional development/advancement, with an emphasis on cultivating and soliciting major gifts.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
What You Bring:
• Fundraising experience at a comprehensive research university or health-care institution. Demonstrated success at major gift fundraising and working knowledge of gift planning vehicles (charitable trusts, gift annuities and complex outright gifts).
• Proven track record partnering with Dean, Executive Director or equivalent leader.
• Demonstrated ability to improve organizational effectiveness by managing others, providing strategic positioning and leadership.
• Superior interpersonal skills, working equally comfortably and effectively with scholars, administration, professional and administrative staff and alumni(ae).
• Effective written and verbal communications skills.
• Proven ability to solicit and secure support.
• Ability to initiate and maintain corporate and foundation contacts.
• Experience working with volunteers and not-for-profit boards, including proactively identifying opportunities to engage volunteers as ambassadors and stakeholders.
• Self-starter with enormous energy and a capacity for hard work within an intensely goal-oriented environment.
• Knowledge of alumni relations/development/advancement principles, including use of development databases. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.
What You Can Expect:
• Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
• Must have regular and reliable transportation for local travel and willing to travel when necessary. Frequent local travel expected.
