We are seeking an Assistant Controller, to sit within the Accounting and Compliance Team. This is a Hybrid role located in New York. The Accounting and Compliance Team provide a wide range of services including: payment processing, accounting policy and procedural advice, cash flow management, legal entity audit and financial statement preparation, and tax filing compliance. The Accounting Team work in partnership with other teams such as IT, Legal and Grants, to provide guidance and support to the various OSF Foundations around the world.
This people management role, will be responsible for providing high-level support to the U.S. Controller as they manage day-to-day operations and regulatory compliance of their assigned entities, producing financial statements, forecasting foundation and entity's financial health, and correcting inaccuracies in the financial records.
As an Assistant Controller, you will:
- Be responsible for all financial management and health of assigned entities, ensuring positive net assets in coordination with Grants Management. Monitor and forecast revenue and expense to ensure sufficient funding grants are in place, ensure accounting policies are current and followed;
- Develop board materials, audit committee materials, and fulfil donor reporting requirements, such as tax substantiation letters, and reporting against grants in coordination with relevant program staff;
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and yearly analysis schedules for all assigned entities; along with yearend audit schedules for all assigned entities, record general ledger transactions, prepare journal entries;
- Maintain all integration tasks related to the import of selected financial subsystems (grant administration, contract administration, travel expense administration) into the accounting system;
- Prepare annual financial statements and tax returns, including consolidation of financial information, running ad hoc reports from financial systems as needed (detail transaction reports, etc.) to support statements and consolidations independently
- Manage external service providers of representative offices of respective OSF entity if relevant;
- Review monthly, quarterly and yearly analysis schedules for all assigned entities, along with year-end audit and tax schedules for all assigned entities;
- Review resource sharing formulas and associated monthly OSI billing invoices to other entities including intercompany overhead allocation
- Review monthly bank and petty cash accounts reconciliation for all assigned entities, review and approve journal entries (regular, intercompany and adjusted);
- Act as deputy Controller if needed;
- Respond to senior financial management on all queries on statements and entity transactions;
- Serve as a finance liaison to staff and as a finance department management team member, by providing leadership, developing others, providing support to colleagues and the Controller
We are looking for:
- CPA, with Bachelor's degree (BA/BSc) with a major in Accounting from a four year accredited college or university
- Over ten years of progressively responsible relevant work experience
- Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles with five to seven years managerial experience;
- Comprehension of accounting practices in US Private foundations, Public Charities and C4 organizations
- Experience managing staff and self, in a fast-paced environment
- Research skills, strong attention to detail, discipline with deadlines;
- Experience delivering highly quality and timely reports to senior leadership
- Excellent analytical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office and cloud-based platforms, database management;
- Strong communication (written, verbal, listening), interpersonal and organizational skills, discretion when handling confidential matters;
- Critical thinking skills, good judgment, solutions-oriented;

In New York City the salary range for this role is $102,500 - $189,600 plus benefits**. The final offer is influenced by a range of factors including, but not limited to, skill set and level of experience.
