A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ASSISTANT CONTROLLER
As an Assistant Controller, you will manage the operations and team of the Finance & Accounting department in our Duluth, GA office. This includes AR, AP, treasury management, investment administration, balance sheet reconciliation, and revenue and expense recognition. The Assistant Controller will identify and recommend continuous process improvements in all areas of responsibility.
Your primary responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations of the Accounting Department and:
- Maintaining complete, accurate, and systematic accounting records.
- Ensuring all transactions and financial policies meet federal regulations and standards as well as GAAP, with oversight from CFO and Controller.
- Providing primary review and approval of all staff-initiated wires and ACH disbursements.
- Assist in treasury management functions including administration interface and management of daily working capital needs.
- Coaching and developing direct reports; completing and/or approving all performance evaluations, corrective actions, schedules, and administrative tasks for department.
- Managing month end close out process, for multiple entities.
- Reviewing and managing actual and proposed month end journal entries for multiple entities, including recurring transactions, inter-company, accruals, deferrals, taxes, allocations and corrections.
In the Assistant Controller role, you will, monitor and respond to daily accounting department email inquiries. You will serve as administrator for corporate credit card account(s) and related vendor system; manage additions, deletions, changes, credit limits, fraud activity and dispute resolution on behalf of organization. You will provide periodic and year-end audit assistance for multiple entities; provide periodic and year-end tax assistance for multiple entities. You will be the primary lead for SAGE 500 accounting information system, including technical problem resolution, organizational and user training, user functionality and coordination with the IT Department to resolve any technical integration deficiencies. You will review multiple monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet account backup and reconciliation for all entities. You will complete account variance research and any special projects assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ASSISTANT CONTROLLER:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
- Five (5) years' experience gained through increasingly responsible accounting positions.
- Proven experience dealing with sensitive high-level financial information, including payroll and retirement benefit information, as well as board and credit union member information.
- Proven experience with accounting information systems.
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to work effectively in a Microsoft Office environment, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Proven time management skills. Ability to work in fast paced collaborative and customer service-oriented environment.
- Two (2) years' supervisor experience.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Advanced MS Excel skills including V lookups and Pivot tables
Specifications (preferred)
- CPA preferred. Public accounting experience a plus.
- Knowledge of Sage 500 and related products a plus.
- Knowledge and understanding of history, development, and philosophy of credit union movement preferred
