Job Description:

Longwood University invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach, Men's Soccer (GA024).  The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the head coach in the instruction and coaching of student-athletes in the fundamentals of soccer by demonstrating techniques and methods for success during college competition, as well as evaluating student-athlete's strengths and weaknesses to improve techniques in order to be successful in the classroom and on the field. The position also acts as the director of recruiting and program development, establishing stronger relationships with clubs and coaches, to gain insight on better prospective student-athletes, and requires him/her to be completely knowledgeable of NCAA and Big South Conference recruiting regulations, as well as informing both present and future student-athletes of all University rules and regulations.  He/she is also responsible for the continuing development of the summer camps and year-round clinics program, including developing marketing and promotional strategies and will serve as the camp and clinics director, and is the athletic team contact for Academic Services, ensuring that the Athletic departmental goals and expectations regarding academic progress are met.

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead and oversee the recruitment, scouting, and talent assessment processes
  • Develop and implement strategies to identify and attract skilled soccer players
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in recruiting and talent assessment
  • Provide comprehensive coaching in soccer fundamentals, imparting knowledge and refining techniques
  • Foster a positive and developmental environment for players to enhance their skills
  • Take charge of planning, organizing, and executing camps and clinics
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality soccer programs that align with the organization's goals
  • Collaborate with Athletic Department Academic Services to monitor student-athletes' eligibility and academic progress
  • Act as a liaison to address any academic-related concerns affecting student-athletes
  • Serve as Camp Director, overseeing all aspects of camp operations and ensuring a positive experience for participants
  • Conduct effective and engaging training sessions to enhance player skills and team performance
  • Undertake additional administrative responsibilities as delegated by the Head Coach, contributing to the overall success of the soccer program
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements:

  • A Master's Degree is preferred or Bachelor's Degree with equivalent training and work experience
  • Work experience at an NCAA Division II University with a minimum of five years in coaching while demonstrating and understanding of the specific dynamics and requirements at this level
  • Bring firsthand experience as both a player and coach in the NPSL (National Premier Soccer League)
  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in assisting coaching roles, demonstrating a proven track record of contributing to team success
  • Proficient in video editing to analyze game footage and enhance coaching strategies
  • Demonstrate expertise in international soccer recruiting, showcasing the ability to attract talent from diverse backgrounds
  • Must be able to perform physical activities associated with the sport of Soccer
  • Must have a valid driver's license


Additional Information:

This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
