ASSISTANT BRANCH MANAGER-Lakeside Bank North Loop

Position Summary:  

Generate new, profitable financial relationships, focusing on the business and commercial banking segments, emphasizing deposits, retail, cash management, business services and other bank products. 

Services customers’ financial needs in order to maintain and develop profitable customer relationships with the Bank.  Responsible and accountable for the sales and service of all retail products and services to consumer and commercial customers.  Provides quality service to ensure complete customer satisfaction with every transaction. 

Must have a working knowledge of all bank products and services including: wire transfers, direct deposit, all special services transactions and lending products.  Must be familiar with documentation and procedures required to open all types of accounts.  Technical proficiency includes knowledge of compliance regulations affecting retail products and transactions as well as legal restrictions and/or limitations affecting account ownership, FDIC coverage and check processing.  Responsible for profitability of accounts; no monetary losses from accounts.  Is aware of competitive products and services within the financial services industry and the bank’s immediate market area.

Assists the Market Manager in the management of the branch, acting on his/her behalf with regard to the supervision of the branch staff, managing processes, policies and daily operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrates a CAN DO attitude.
  • Responsible for outside business development and branch production.  Identify and acquire new banking relationships while retaining existing clients. Consistently meets and/or exceeds established branch sales goals for the month, quarter, and annual basis.
  • Prospects new business by meeting with new and existing clients to provide financial solutions and then effectively manages the sales process from start to finish.  Develop a weekly sales plan and establish a pre-set number of weekly calls.
  • Understand differing industry financial and credit product needs and trends.  Keep informed through independent sources, seminars and classes to further enhance knowledge of sales, product knowledge and lending opportunities.
  • Fosters community and positive professional relationships with retail customers, local businessman, trade organizations, service clubs, etc. to identify the credit and other financial needs of the community by participating in community events, local organization events and networking activities, participating on various committees; accepts memberships and official positions in various community organizations. Capitalize on opportunities to promote the sale of the bank’s products and services.
  • Support company wide sales and marketing campaigns and initiatives; executes local strategies.
  • Produce growth income by selling business and retail products and services; provides all tracking and reporting as required by retail management.
  • Will be required to sell or participate in the selling and cross-selling of bank products and services following established guidelines and procedures as needed in the branch. 
  • Researches and resolves more complicated account problems or errors.  Investigates files, documents or reports on transactions to determine the problem and cause of action to be taken.
  • Authorizes overdrafts, approves checks for cashing and processes transactions within established limits.  May have a higher limit of authorization. 
  • Completes special assignments and tasks with limited supervisions within allotted time frames in addition to meeting regular responsibilities.
  • Mentor and coach branch staff as needed. May be asked to provide training to new retail employees.
  • Will manage the Teller/Universal Banker function.  This will include but is not limited to:  staffing, scheduling and transaction processing, as well as opening a cash drawer and processing customer transactions as needed. Will also prepare and verify cash shipments and be responsible for the Vault function.  Ensures that dual controls and all processes and procedures are followed. Responsible for all operational functions-on both teller and banker sides.
  • In the absence of the Market Manager, this position will act on his/her behalf with regard to the supervision of the branch staff. The individual will serve as a resource person to other branch staff members.
  • Responsible for performing duties that are directly related to the general managerial policies and procedures within the retail branch operations. They are responsible for exercising discretion and independent judgment as they complete assignments and tasks under limited supervision.
  • Using due diligence, decisions are to be made that minimize the overall risk exposure to the bank. Approvals should be made within the authority levels of the position. When these levels exceed authority, the ABM will utilize senior staff within the branch and all other departments of the bank to include other Market Managers, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Exercises the authority of the Market Manager (in Manager’s absence).
  • Approves transactions that exceed teller limits or banker’s authority.
  • Explains bank policy and/or product parameters as outlined in our consumer disclosure brochures and interprets banking regulations as they relate to a specific transaction or customer inquiry.
  • Provide guidance, training and feedback on performance evaluations necessary to ensure Tellers and Personal Bankers have the skills to service all customers in an above average manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all policies and procedures are being adhered to within the department.  Provides feedback to Market Manager, Retail Sales Manager and Human Resources on violations and makes recommendations for process improvement.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the branch.
  • Responsible for all branch audits.

Qualifications/Attributes:  

  • A proven sales leader with a record of success in staff development and talent management.
  • A solid understanding of industry and retail banking knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communicative skills in both individuals and groups.
  • Ability to balance sales goals and unnecessary risk or exposure.
  • Team Player understanding the power of open and honest communication
  • Ability to recognize the customer’s needs and suggest the best product/service.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all transactions.
  • Good oral communications.
  • Ability to adapt and embrace policy and procedure changes.

Compliance:  

  • Exhibits a thorough understanding of all banking regulations affecting retail banking transactions, as outlined in the overviews and checklists contained in the bank’s Regulatory Compliance Manual and Compliance Audit Manual.
  • Completes compliance related audits and analysis; completes compliance-related projects as required.

Performance Metrics:

  • Reaches out to all customers transacting business on the retail floor taking the initiative to greet and assist customers at the teller area, to be certain their visit to our location is a positive experience.
  • Answers correspondence from current and potential customers.
  • Handles all daily routine questions and problems as they arise with customer satisfaction.

Other Skills and Abilities, including computer skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related major, minimum of seven years of experience in the financial industry required or a high school diploma or GED and four years of progressive banking experience and/or training.
  • Sales management experience is preferred. 
  • Must have a solid understanding of industry and retail banking knowledge.  Retail Lending experience a plus.
  • Computer skills required
  • Strong math skills required
