The DOJ is looking for a highly motivated and talented individual to join our Division of Legal Services as an Assistant Attorney General - Milwaukee Gun Prosecutor in the Criminal Litigation Unit.
This position is headquartered at the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office, located at 821 West State Street in Milwaukee.

Position Summary
Under general supervision of a deputy unit director this position provides legal advice and representation services in the enforcement of statutes, commencement of actions, or in defense of governmental clients. This position requires the exercise of sound and reasoned judgment in legal skills, analysis, and workload management. This position requires working professionally and collaboratively within the division and unit as well as on interdivisional and interdepartmental projects, assignments, and other tasks. This position also performs other administrative functions and duties as assigned.
This position will be dedicated to the prosecution of gun involved crimes in Milwaukee County. The position will primarily work with a team of assistant district attorneys, victim/ witness specialist, and law enforcement investigating, charging, and prosecuting these cases. While this position will specialize in gun related prosecutions, the caseload will encompass a variety of legal areas.
Salary Information
The Assistant Attorney General position is in pay schedule 09 and pay range 75. The starting pay will be between $74,880 to $112,320 annually. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required.
Job Details
The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.
A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection.
Candidate must be a member in good standing with the Wisconsin State Bar upon appointment.
Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants must have professional law experience in the following:
  • Analyzing facts and evidence in criminal cases and assisting law enforcement with investigations.
  • Preparing and drafting pleadings, including complaints, motions and briefs in gun involved and violent criminal cases.
  • Serving as first or second chair on multiple jury trials.
In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will have education, training, and/or experience in the following:
  • Serving as first chair on multiple firearms related and/or violent criminal jury trials.
  • Prosecuting multiple non-fatal shooting cases.
  • Experience training, mentoring and/or coaching prosecutors.
  • Pretrial litigation practice in violent criminal prosecutions including but not limited to:
    • Preparing notices to present expert witness testimony (Ballistics and DNA).
    • 4 th and 5 th Amendment Motion Practice.
    • Experience in victim and witness preparation.
