Position Summary
  • Assist in the organization and administration of the overall program of interscholastic athletics for the school in cooperation with the Assistant Principal for Athletics.
  • Help to foster team building and an environment of reliability, adaptability and good sportsmanship.
  • Aide in the promotion of academic growth and achievement for athletes.
  • This position includes extracurricular services under a Schedule B - Group I stipend.

Qualifications
  • Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Prior coaching experience at a high school level, preferred
  • IHSA Coaching Certification (including applicable performance-enhancing substances, concussion, hate speech and harassment, and AED training)

  • Assistant Principal for Athletics of the building assigned

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Exhibit effective communication skills to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community.
  • Assist in the selection and assignment of coaches and department staff.
  • Ensure volunteer coaches are properly processed.
  • Assist in the scheduling of all school athletic facilities for competitive and practice sessions.
  • Secure officials for home athletic contests and process their payment for services.
  • Secure medical assistance for home and away athletic contests where appropriate.
  • Secure competition day staff for announcements, crowd control, ticket sales, score and/or time keeping, and other needs for all home athletic contests and for away contests where appropriate.
  • Ensure that all supplies and equipment are ordered in accordance with established District procedures.
  • Supervise disposition, collection, maintenance and inventory control of equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure uniform and proper enforcement of the Athletic Training Rules as out-lined by District #87 Policy and/or Administrative Regulations.
  • Ensure that all fiscal receipts and disbursements are made in accordance with established District procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with IHSA and conference rules.
  • Supervise preparation of insurance, health, eligibility, statistical, and other necessary records.
  • Supervise awards.
  • Perform appropriate public relations activities such as cooperating with Booster organizations, local newspapers, etc.
  • Establish appropriate practices and procedures to safeguard the health and safety of participating students.
  • Assist in supervising indoor and outdoor facilities.
  • Arrange suitable transportation for all athletic teams.
  • Represent the school at conference Athletic Directors' meetings.
  • Act as or secure, with Principal's approval, a manager for all special IHSA or invitational contests hosted at the school.
  • Attend home contests as determined by the Assistant Principal for Athletics.
  • Maintain the highest level of ethical and professional demeanor with students and staff consistent with the Sexual Harassment, Equal Educational Opportunity, Ethics, Use of Electronic Media, and other appropriate policies of the District.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and School Board policy.
  • Does not administer corporal punishment or touch students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal for Athletics.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as correspondence, surveys and electronic media.
  • Ability to write professional communications.
  • Ability to present information effectively and to respond to questions from individuals and groups
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form
  • Ability to complete mathematical operations and apply concepts of basic mathematics
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to maintain current job skills as directed, especially in technology-related activities
  • Ability to perform essential duties with an awareness of school district requirements and School Board policies

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. In addition, the ability to withstand long-term use of video display terminals (VDT) is required.
  • The employee may occasionally lift up to 30 pounds such as reference books.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The pace of work tasks would be considered as fast.
  • Work is usually conducted at one job site, however, on occasion, this employee will be required to attend meetings, conferences, or workshops and events at other sites as assigned.
