Individual performs fixed asset accounting functions and assists in generating business improvements within assigned area with general supervision.
Essential Job Functions
- Under general supervision, applies the principles, theories, and concepts of asset accounting to assignments. Focuses a significant portion of efforts on analysis and problem-solving.
- Continues to develop, broaden, and utilize technical skills by seeking direction from more senior professionals and by attending appropriate training sessions.
- Focuses a large portion of effort on data entry and learning with some time spent on analysis and problem-solving.
- Demonstrates initiative in seeking additional responsibility and gaining knowledge beyond core responsibilities, e.g., striving to understand the "big picture".
- May assist in developing and promoting sound recommendations that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
- May function as a project leader on less complex projects.
- May assist with the training and mentoring of less experienced staff.
- Develop an understanding of the Oil and Gas Industry and Asset Retirement Obligations (ARO).
- Performs quarterly and annual ARO updates for Domestic and International assets including reviewing estimates received from asset teams, calculating, and processing entries, preparing and distributing reports and presenting changes to management.
- Completes ARO Blackline Account Reconciliations.
- Assists with Quarterly Unproved Property (UPP) Due Diligence meetings for Domestic Asset teams to ensure timely and accurate review of significant leases for impairment and success factors for insignificant leases.
- Prepares Quarterly Time Impairments for insignificant leases and provides variance explanations for changes related to the weighted average lease terms (WALT).
- Provides timely and accurate processing of Fixed Asset Accounting transactions including additions, disposals, Cost of Reserves (COR) transfers, and lease expirations.
- Understands Cash Flow presentation and assures that all monthly Fixed Asset activity is presented accurately.
- Performs SAP testing for process improvements and support pack upgrades to ensure changes meet business requirements.
- Provides data for internal and external auditors relating to asset transactions and SOX controls.
- Record Other Field Equipment/Service Ops entries.
- Provide ad hoc accounting support for Asset Team field office.
- Monitor and ensure timely settlement of capital projects.
- Collaborate with stake holders on accounting issues related to assigned Asset Team.
- Assist with annual physical inventories of equipment stored in field locations.
- Assist with various disclosure information for quarterly and annual SEC filings (Fair Value disclosures, Contractual Commitments, Leases, etc.)
- Review WBS requests for:
- Appropriate capital/expense treatment
- Appropriate approval authority
- Assist in special projects as required (may include IT projects and MA&D requests).
- Collaborate with Team Leads, Financial Analysts, and Planners to ensure proper reporting of monthly and quarterly results.
- Liaise with multiple departments including Operations Accounting, Land, Tax, Production and Revenue Accounting, Consolidations, and Joint Interest Accounting.
- Takes ownership of their responsibilities and strives to continuously improve processes and increase their technical SAP knowledge.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance
- MBA/CPA preferred
- Computer Proficiencies: SAP AM, FI, PM and PS modules, BW and Microsoft Office applications a plus.
