Position: Assessment Training Specialist
Reports To: Director of Housing Problem Solving & Reception
Purpose of Position: As part of the team focused on the statewide Coordinated Entry System (CES), this position is responsible for providing system wide training, technical assistance, and support throughout the RI CoC (Continuum of Care) on the utilization and implementation of both Housing Problem Solving (HPS) techniques and the Service Prioritization Decision Assistance Tool (SPDAT).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Advocates for the mission of the organization and promotes the vision and direction of the agency's values.
- Delivers services with safety, respect, and effectiveness.
- Follows all policies and procedures of the organization.
- Demonstrates proficiency and experience in the utilization of the CoC triage tools, HPS & SPDAT assessments with various homeless populations.
- Provides effective delivery of the skills necessary to conduct HPS & SPDAT assessments to groups and individuals.
- Maintains professional rapport with service users, peers, and community service providers.
- Plans and coordinates system wide HPS & SPDAT trainings and delivers follow-up support.
- Comprehends the CES program curriculum and policies according to the rules and guidelines established by the RI CoC.
- Adheres to the fidelity of practice of Housing First at all times; Delivers services and conducts training within that context.
- Delivers all services and assessments using best practice and evidence-based methods including Motivational Interviewing: Progressive Engagement: Trauma Informed Care.
- Maintains high standards of ethics and confidentiality.
- Maintains accurate records, schedules, and training requirements.
- Builds and maintains a repository of training and reference materials and related records.
Requirements
Experience and Education:
- Bachelor's degree in human services field OR
- Associate degree in a Human Services field plus a minimum of 3 years' experience in a Human Services field such as advocacy or case management OR
- 3 years' experience as a Trainer plus a minimum of 3 years' experience in a Human Services field such as advocacy or case management OR
- A minimum of 8 years' experience in a Human Services field such as advocacy or case management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Able to work flexible hours, including evenings.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and committed to working with vulnerable populations.
- Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing.
- Must work well under pressure.
- Ability to respond effectively to crisis situations.
- Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries when dealing with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- Computer skills and data entry required.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
