Job Description
As a Laborer on a paving construction crew, it is your responsibility to ensure safe, efficient and proper completion of work as directed by the Paving Foreman. A Paving Crew Laborer reports directly to the Paving Foreman.
NOTE: A Paving Crew Laborer’s job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

A. OSHA guidelines for safety as related to daily work tasks.

I. OVERALL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Communicate with the paving foreman to identify the scope of work to be completed each day and to discuss the means and methods to be employed to accomplish those goals.
B. Assist Equipment Operators as needed with daily start-up and shut-down procedures on large equipment.
C. Operation and safe use of small equipment such as walk behind saws, quickie saws, air compressors, jack hammers, plate tampers, walk behind rollers…etc.
D. Perform daily pre-startup procedures for small equipment: i.e. check fluid levels, make sure equipment to be used is in good running order, grease/lubricate, check safety devices are in place and in working order.
E. Communicate continuously with the Paving Foreman and Equipment Operators in regards to checking proper grade, depth of materials placement and proper completion of the work.
F. Help in keeping equipment clean to promote a good public image and to aide in proper inspections.
G. Wear and maintain proper personal protective equipment.
H. Properly store and maintain all tools used during each day’s work.
