Join the Brighton Park Neighborhood Council (BPNC) as an ASL Instructor. We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor to inspire and guide our Ladders of Opportunity participants. The responsibilities of the ASL instructor will range from providing basic introductory ASL lessons to twenty adults, developing lesson plans, and maintaining records of students' attendance and performance for the Ladders Organizer.

This position is a contract part-time position. The contractor must be available for an hour and a half every Wednesday and Friday from 1 pm to 2:30 pm, starting April 2024 through June 2024.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and deliver ASL lessons that cater to the needs of students.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to promote growth and development.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to enhance student learning.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation.
  • Interact and communicate in a supportive, respectful, and professional manner with students, parents, community members, and other staff members.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Other related job duties as needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Must be able to teach in person for one hour and a half on Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and fill out all required employment documentation
  • Maintain good communication with participants and Ladders Organizer
  • Any changes in the work schedule MUST be previously approved by the Ladder Program Manager
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of focus, task-oriented, non-judgmental, clear sense of boundaries
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse families and communities and ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.

Pay: $22.00 per hour
