Job description

Summary: Performs a variety of tasks designed to gain knowledge of rules and regulations, record keeping, and management of the CMS After School Enrichment Program from an experienced Site Coordinator. Persons in this position will be given short-term assignments to gain practical experience in applying the procedures learned during the training program.  Assignments will vary in location and length of time.  Incumbents in this class serve under training conditions while acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge for promotion to Site Coordinator. 

Incumbents must successfully complete the training program within one year.  Externally hired incumbents who do not successfully complete the program within one year will be terminated. Internal employees will go back to their position as associate or assistant. After a designated period of training, the ASEP Site Coordinator Trainee may coordinate the work of the After School Enrichment Program staff at a school site if a Site Coordinator is on approved leave or the Site Coordinator position is vacant.  The Site Coordinator plans and provides a daily program of nurturing and enriching experiences for pre-k and/or school age children and youth.  When in the role of a site coordinator trainee, incumbent must be able to stay at the location until 6:00 pm or until the last child is picked up.

Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)

  • Receives "basic training" on topics relevant to the position such as fee collection, receipting/depositing, subsidy, financial month end reports, KRONOS, and licensing compliance, etc
  • Receives monthly training and support on seasonal events such as winter/spring break, summer camp, evaluations, curriculum expectations, in-service training, contract services/field trips, etc.
  • Collects data and learns to complete monthly reports
  • Learns licensure procedures and Health Department regulations as they apply to after school.
  • Learns supply ordering and financial procedures
  • Learns how to plan work schedules to ensure the safety of all students
  • Learns the payroll process
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

Minimum

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Required Administration I & II, Child Care Credential I & II
  • At least 3 years of experience in the administration of a licensed child care facility
  • Associate degree or four year degree with emphasis on child development, early childhood education or a related field with at least 12 semester hours in child development, child psychology or early education

Desired

  • At least one year experience working with kindergarten and elementary school age children preferred.

Licensing / Certification Requirements:

  • NC Early Childhood Credentials and BSAC within 3 months of hire
  • Valid health certificate and proof of negative TB test results prior to employment start date.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to coordinate and monitor the program, including supervision and evaluation of staff, and maintenance of financial records
  • Background or interest in literacy, the cultural arts, or recreation for children preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills for working with parents and involvement with community activities.
  • Valid health certificate and proof of negative TB test results prior to employment start date
