An Off-Campus Work-Study Position
Harwood Art Center's Arts Management Intern embodies the philosophy, mission and values of
Harwood and our parent organization, Escuela del Sol Montessori, and believes in our work as

steward and create opportunities grounded in arts, engagement, community, citizenship,
education and professional development.
ABOUT ESCUELA DEL SOL & HARWOOD ART CENTER
For 55 years, Escuela del Sol Montessori has nurtured creativity, independence and academic
excellence in pre-K through elementary aged children. Escuela's Harwood Art Center expands
the school's philosophy to serve a broad audience of youth and adults with a variety of
programs, including art workshops, artist studios, galleries and exhibitions, and community
outreach projects, as well as apprenticeship, teaching and professional development
opportunities. Escuela and Harwood are dedicated to building a love of lifelong learning,
creative expression and positive impact on our community and our world.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Arts Management Intern will work in close collaboration with Core Harwood Staff to assist a
roster of public programs and offerings related to Arts Education, Engagement, Opportunity and
Outreach. The position includes assisting with public open hours, programs, and events, and
further duties tailored to the experience and career goals of the chosen applicant.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
THE SHOP AT HARWOOD & PUBLIC HOURS: In cooperation with the Chief Programs Officer,
the Associate Director of Opportunity, and the Associate Director of Engagement, supports the
Shop at Harwood, a new retail store representing New Mexico based working artists, including
assisting with sales, inventory, and shop upkeep.
DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:
GALLERIES, EXHIBITIONS & COMMISSIONS PROGRAMS: In cooperation with the Chief
Programs Officer, the Associate Director of Opportunity, and the Associate Director of
Engagement, supports the Galleries & Exhibitions Program for New Mexico based working
artists, including the installation and production of annual shows and related public events.
ARTS EDUCATION & OUTREACH: In cooperation with Harwood and Escuela staff, supports
teaching artists, guides, and speakers for our youth and/or adult arts education and outreach
programs; helps to maintain and manage supplies related to these programs; and fosters the
organizational principles and values across education and outreach programs.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

philosophy and goals; Montessori educational philosophy;
Willingness to serve as an ambassador and steward for our organization;
Strong written, verbal and organizational skills;
High integrity and attention to detail;
Interest and passion for arts, culture, and community organizing.
Familiarity with Apple computers, Microsoft Office, Google Suite;
Openness to learn online platforms like Wufoo, Square Up, and Paperless Post and online
registration programs such as Sawyer and Eventbrite;
Capacity to follow instructions carefully, carry out projects independently, and manage time
efficiently, as well as to collaborate with and nurture others;
Ability to interact and communicate with all of the members of our community in a friendly,
courteous and articulate manner;
Commitment to arts, engagement, community, citizenship, education and professional
development in New Mexico;
Belief that agency, safety, and expression are universal rights and that diversity, equity,
inclusion, representation, and access are essential.
LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS
A current driver's license or identification is required. A background check is required and must
be successfully completed before employment can be offered or started. You will have the

SCHEDULE
The applicant must be available to work Saturdays 10am-3pm, the rest of their schedule will be
agreed upon together, and consider the applicant's school schedule and Harwood's program
schedule.

(2021 dates as example):
