JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for providing 2 elective classes, and 4 special classes serving our K - 8th grade students, while also providing logistical support to on-campus performances (six performances annually). This position requires the instructor to be versed in MAA Discipline procedures and the Arts Department Expectations and Behavior Agreement. The employee should feel versed in working with a variable population within multiple artistic disciplines while embracing the department’s mission statement in all aspects of decision making.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

Classroom Management:

- Maintaining classroom environment conducive to learning by utilizing approved school-wide classroom management techniques.

- Utilizing the Discipline Referral Flow Chart in documenting and processing behavior issues.

- Implementing a “Positive School Climate” in classroom discipline.

- Utilize the Arts Class Expectations and Behavior Agreement.

- Participating in the department’s uniform system of classroom rewards (Star of the Day, All Star Class Award, Spot Light, Arts Laureate).

- Discussing all classroom management concerns with the Principal or Assistant Principal while reporting any incidents to the appropriate parties to ensure that there is a positive learning environment that adheres to MAA policies.

- Follow approved schedules and procedures for starting and ending classes, and the transitioning of students.

- Understand all fire drill and lock down procedures.

Planning for Instruction:

- Design a program based on the Arizona Arts Standards and the needs of students.

- Preparing and implementing lesson plans for students based on assessed needs, Arizona Arts Standards, and in accordance with

MAA’s philosophy and curriculum system.

- Contribute to the design and implementation of discipline-specific curricula and assessments.

- Submit weekly lesson plans into the planbook due every Monday.

- Have the classroom/instructional area prepared for students prior to the start of class.

Programming/Assessment

- Communicating accurate knowledge of subject matter in a comprehensible manner using language, style, and technology appropriate to the learner.

- Demonstrating a breadth of subject matter knowledge that enables students to connect and respond to topics from a variety of cultural perspectives, interests, and points of view.

- Using the current references, materials, and technologies of the subject field in a manner appropriate to the developmental stage of the learner.

- Using appropriate assessment instruments pertinent to instructional areas to assess on-going student progress and mastery while maintaining required assessment documentation.

- Providing varied instructional techniques designed to meet the educational, social and emotional needs of the students.

- Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment and facilities.

- Assisting in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and School Board Policies.

- Assisting in the selection of equipment and other instructional materials.

- Effectively utilizing volunteers and community partners so they enhance instruction.

- Coordinating with other school staff and teachers to maximize student learning.

- Ensuring that students are aware of and following REACH values and are active participants in Climate activities.

- Evaluate the student progress on a regular basis and provide feedback to students and parents.

- Assessing student’s arts engagement and participation for the purpose of providing feedback to students and parents regarding students’ progress.

Communication:

- Establishing and maintaining cooperative relations with other employees.

- Submitting progress reports and final grades in a timely manner for school personnel and parents.

- Informing parents if a student is at-risk of failure.

- Checking school email at least twice daily.

- Checking school Mail Box at least once daily.

- Utilizing approved methods and forms for out-of-classroom referrals (office, medical, behavior, late-to-class, nurse, etc.)

Professional Development Program:

- Continuing professional growth through educational in-service, meetings, and required training.

- Providing for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or course work in the subject area.

Other Responsibilities:

- Performing other responsibilities, as directed. This may include lunch and recess duty.

- Planning and attending evening performances that showcase your students’ talents. This may include weekend rehearsals or performances.

- Maintaining department equipment, materials, and inventories for the purpose of ensuring availability of said items.

- Maintaining regular attendance with minimal absences (Requests off may not be submitted the week preceding a show or show week).

- Maintaining current Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance with IVP number.
