Art Director
Very Very Spaceship is a multi-project game development studio with a creative crew of space faring game developers from the Pacific Northwest & beyond. Join us on our journey as we continue to push the boundaries of game development, create marvelous moments, and build innovative gaming experiences that inspire, engage, and connect players around the world.
To kick off an exciting new project, we’re growing our development team in Seattle and seeking an Art Director to lead an art team and establish the visual direction of a new game. The ideal candidate will take ownership over guiding their team, while also being hands-on to create art themselves when needed.
Working with, and reporting to the studio's Game Director, you will play an important role in pre-production. As the Art Director it will be your responsibility to define, communicate, and uphold a cohesive vision for this new title. You thrive in a fast paced, iterative, semi-structured environment. You are comfortable communicating with directors, guiding a team, and ok getting your hands dirty. Most importantly, you are excited by the opportunity to join a project early and take it to the finish line.
Responsibilities:
- Grow an art team tailor made for this title.
- Lead and mentor a team of talented artists, providing guidance and feedback to level up art team understanding and skills.
- Lead and manage external art contractors, ensuring quality deliverables.
- Define and maintain a clear artistic vision for the project, working closely with the Game Director and other key stakeholders.
- Directly contribute in some aspect to development–this could be 3D modeling, or concept art, or something else.
- Establish comprehensive style guides and specifications to articulate and document the artistic direction of the project.
- Facilitate the creation of concept art, 3D models, UI elements, and other visual assets, ensuring they align with the project's vision.
- Partner with production to drive schedule estimation, task scoping, and project planning for art initiatives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design and engineering teams.
- Communicate with partners (investors, publishers, IP holders)
Qualifications:
- 5+ years art direction experience, with at least 2 years leading a team in the gaming industry.
- Broad experience in content creation roles for games.
- Experience and in-depth understanding of modern game engines and 3D production tools.
- Ability to work well in a fluid, semi-structured environment as creative challenges evolve.
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to lead and motivate art teams.
- Enthusiasm for games and passion to craft incredible interactive experiences.
Location: We currently operate in a hybrid work environment at this time. Our studio space is in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle.
Compensation: The annual base salary range for this position is USD $137,000 - $161,000. Very Very Spaceship considers factors such as (but not limited to): scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
