Director of Platform Engineering Job Description

You will be responsible for the transformation of on-premise infrastructure at EA locations to a secure, self-service, easy-to-use portfolio of EA IT private cloud infrastructure service offerings. This suite of software-defined managed infrastructure services will enable EAIT Product teams to deliver their strategies by consuming infrastructure services with minimal friction 

Responsibilities
  • Define, design, architect and implement EA IT's portfolio of private cloud infrastructure offerings including compute, storage, database, network services
  • Working in conjunction with the EAIT Public Cloud IT team, build and deploy automated pipelines to create and manage on premise infrastructure and in adopting EA IT's public cloud choice of tooling: Cloud Management Platforms (CMP) Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and Config Management tooling for consistency purposes
  • Design, build and rollout a unified Cloud Platform with an emphasis on consistent user experience across private and public clouds by enabling infrastructure services in private cloud that are the equivalent of those readily available in the public cloud
  • Establish a subscription-based model of service for private cloud services to enable consistent charge-back and show-back capabilities across various EA locations
  • Scope, build and adopt automations and processes to ensure Day 2 service continuity including OS upgrades/updates, OS security patches as well as uptime, availability and performance of Infrastructure resources, environments and pipelines.
  • Establish Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) culture and principles to track and measure the health - uptime, availability and performance - of EA IT's suite of Infrastructure services and to build automation - redundancy, failover and disaster recovery mechanisms - to prevent problem recurrence.
Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC), configuration management and automation tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, Ansible, Chef
  • Extensive knowledge of DevOps (CI/CD/Feature Flags) tool chain such as CircleCI, Git, Jenkins, SonarQube, IaC security & Platform Engineering principles (including open-source projects like Backstage.io)
  • Excellent understanding of cloud-native microservice architectures built on Kubernetes, GitOps, ArgoCD, and serverless technologies.
  • Experience of technical leadership in large-scale observability solutions encompassing metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting
  • Familiarity with technologies in our stack, including ElasticSearch/OpenSearch, Prometheus, Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, Timestream, Lambda
  • Proficiency in AWS, Azure, GCP and VMWare
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex technical issues and identify root causes
  • Experience in managing complex projects and initiatives, including resource allocation, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Proven track record of leading and managing technical teams, including hiring, mentoring, and performance evaluation
  • Proven experience implementing and managing DevOps and SRE practices in large-scale environments
US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location.

Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
BASE SALARY RANGES
Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane):
$166,700 - $258,200 USD Annually
Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
