Job Summary:
Charge is seeking a seasoned Area Safety Supervisor to lead and implement a comprehensive Safety Management System. Safety is the foundation of our core values and takes priority in all that we do. A successful candidate for the Area Safety Supervisor position will play a vital role in supporting the company’s growth, while maintaining a focus on protecting our most valuable resources, our people. The Area Safety Supervisor plays a vital role in preventing accidents, injuries, and incidents, while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry best practices.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage major components of Safety Management System
- Employee engagement within the Safety Program, including Grassroots Safety
- Risk identification and mitigation – forward-looking approach to preventing injuries and safety incidents
- Field Safety Program, including jobsite audits, incident investigation, lessons learned
- Participate in development of strategic vision for the Safety Program, including development and communication of program components, tracking of compliance with program components, and active engagement with Operations related to the program
- Provide safety leadership and ensure compliance with corporate and industry safety standards, implement safety directives, assist with the development of the training program and improve safety performance
- Identify industry best practices, through partnership with other contractors and clients, and establish safety policies and procedures to enact
- Manage Field Safety teams throughout California and Oregon
- Collaborate with Field Operations Leaders to develop common sense approaches to safety, and identify and address safety performance and trend analysis
- Represent Charge with utility and contract clients on matters relating to safety performance
- Oversees incident reporting process to ensure:
- Immediate notification to internal stakeholders and clients
- Drafting of incident reports from safety or field personnel
- Review and approval of accurate and timely reports
- Submittal of incident reports to appropriate clients
- Conducts and oversees incident investigation, when needed, including interviews with witnesses, documentation of site conditions, determining root cause analysis, and sharing lessons learned
- Participate in initial emergency response when incident requires additional resources on-site
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Well-versed in Safety Management Principals, including Behavior-Based Safety, OSHA Safety Management Guidelines.
- Ability to support Field Operations in execution of safety measures
- Effective communication skills – written and verbal
- Focus on problem-solving approach to challenges
- Collaborative and able to work with diverse workforce
- Highly organized, proactive and self-starter
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health or equivalent experience preferred
- 10 or more years in construction safety with increasing responsibilities
- 5 or more years in utility construction (California experience preferred)
- OSHA Certifications – OSHA 20, 30, 500 (OSHA 5109) and 501 (OSHA 5119)
- Experience with OSHA record-keeping requirements and best practices
- Familiar with utility construction standards, processes, and hazards
Physical requirements:
- Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time unassisted
- Must be able to wear restrictive PPE and clothing
- Must be able to walk on all types of terrain for distances of at least 1+ miles at a time unassisted
- Must be able to articulate fingers
- Must be able to talk loud and clear
- Must be able to carry at least 25lbs
- Must be able to drive company vehicles
- Must be able to fly on commercial airlines
Compensation: $125,000K - $150,000K
- Compensation + Bonus potential, + 100% paid full benefits for you and your family, generous paid time off, and an employer funded retirement plan. Offers of employment are conditional and may be rescinded based on successfully passing a criminal background check and substance abuse testing.
