The Homewood Suites Laurel/Columbia is looking for an Area General Managerto join the team!
The General Manager maximizes guest, employee and owner satisfaction by leading Homewood Suites Laurel/Columbia while providing assistance to support to 2 other assets in the Columbia area. The Homewood Suites is a 113 room hotel with 5000 SF of meeting space. Attention to every detail to ensure efficient operations of the hotel by leading hotel management team(s). Continual focus on quality as well as achieving hotel profitability through revenue generation and cost controls.
Essential Requirements:
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with hotel standards according to the business levels of the hotel.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming per hotel guidelines.
  • Design, comply and ensure adherence standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Comply with certification requirements as applicable for position to include: Food Handlers, Alcohol Awareness, CPR & First Aid.
  • Ensure the efficient operation of the hotel through effective leadership and support of Guest Services, Food & Beverage, Food Production, Engineering, Sales and Housekeeping departments. Communicate and/or correct deficiencies in these departments in conjunction with the supervisor on duty.
  • Work with Department Heads to gain a good understanding of each position and how it affects the operation of the hotel.
  • Ensure revenue generation programs are in place. Participate in the sales effort by meeting on-site contacts for evening functions, greeting important clients, and participating in sales calls with Sales Team members, as necessary.
  • Develop managerial and hourly employees through the implementation of approved training programs. Lead bi-weekly one-on-ones with the Department Heads to facilitate personnel development.
  • Assist in creating an environment where employees make empowered decisions to ensure guest satisfaction. Follow up on all empowerment successes and opportunities with the appropriate Department Head.
  • Generate/prepare financial reporting as required by QHR. Meet all Corporate imposed deadlines as well as those imposed by the Brand.
  • Participate in required M.O.D. coverage as scheduled.
  • Ensure that training in service standards is taking place in each department.
  • Ensure recruiting, hiring and training is occurring and hotel is staffed appropriate to business levels within the hotel.
  • Ensure weekly meetings with all department managers to address oversell settings and react accordingly
  • Oversee AR/AP, payroll, month end, etc.
  • Creating a positive team-oriented environment that focuses on the guest, through employee development and motivation.
  • Ensure completion and execution of Preventative Maintenance and Deep Cleaning Programs through the daily and/or weekly inspection of rooms with the Housekeeping Manager and Property Engineer.
  • Ensure that employees are always attentive, friendly, courteous, and efficient in their interactions with guests, management, and all other employees.
  • Be familiar with S.O.P.'s in all Operations departments. Ensure that each department complies or has developed an Action Plan for achieving compliance with S.O.P.'s.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship and promote open lines of communication with managers, employees, and other departments.
  • Support Operations departments during peak periods.
  • Ensure that all employees receive fair and equitable treatment according to QHR requirements.
  • Work to develop leaders for promotional opportunities with QHR.
  • Regular property walks throughout the day to ensure proper cleaning/sanitization is occurring.
  • Wash or sanitize hands every 20 - 30 minutes while in high contact areas.
  • Follow hotel's COVID-19 procedures.
  • Be in the public areas during peak times, greeting guests and helping as needed.
  • Maintain procedures for handling of the hotel safety (OSHA, Work Comp, Bloodborne Pathogens, COVID, fire and safety training) to ensure safe working conditions and security. Following QHR quarterly safety audit and submit to QHR corporate human resources.
  • Ensure that all scheduled meetings take place on the property.

Requirements
  • At least 5+ years progressive experience in an Executive and/or Leadership role in a lifestyle or all suites hotel. A 4-year college degree is preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience required.
  • Must be proficient in Windows Operating Systems.
  • Hilton experience preferred
