Job Summary:
We are seeking an Archaeologist to join our team in Sacramento. As an Archaeological Technician, you will be responsible for performing a variety of duties related to fieldwork throughout California. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology with an emphasis on archaeology and a minimum of a field school or equivalent professional experience. Fieldwork rotations will vary between Monday-Friday rotations or 10-day rotations (Tuesday through the Following Thursday, including the weekend). There is also the potential for office work following field rotations in order to process project materials at our location in Sacramento. Office work needs are assessed on a project by project basis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in archaeological reconnaissance or excavation projects under the supervision of the project field director or crew chief.
- Utilize GPS technology to collect and analyze data
- Maintain field notes, level records, and other project paperwork as required.
- Artifact cataloging and database management.
- Prepare collections for curation under supervision of the lab director.
- Assist in site recordation for PAR projects.
- Prepare California site record forms using MS Word
- Prepare sections of reports, under supervision.
- Conduct historical research and record searches, under supervision.
- Assist in production of project documents, as needed.
- Maintain PAR’s library.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with California DPR 523 Forms
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite of softwares
- Ability to hike 10 miles per day in strenuous terrain
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Proficiency in GPS technology and data collection methods
- Excellent writing skills and field notetaking to effectively communicate findings
- Experience supervising or leading a team is a bonus
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures and equipment is a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and analysis, especially in a fast-paced field environment
