THE POSITION
Under general supervision, provides skilled and semi-skilled labor duties in support of aquatic facilities operations including the repair and maintenance of City swimming pools and aquatics facilities in accordance with OSHA safety regulations and City policies and procedures; performs maintenance tasks include basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing work.

- Inspects aquatics facilities, prioritizes necessary repairs, improvements and preventive maintenance; follows all safety rules and regulations to minimize risk and enhance the safety of employees and visitors; checks property and grounds for unsafe conditions, and clears hazards; reports safety conditions, security issues and illegal activities.
- Oversees the work of others in aquatics maintenance procedures.
- Maintains swimming pool water quality and sanitation levels in compliance with State regulations and Health Department standards; tests water and adds the proper chemicals to maintain safe and healthy water quality.
- Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled facilities maintenance, preventive maintenance, component replacement and repair tasks, including carpentry, mechanical, and basic non-licensed electrical and plumbing work.
- Maintains specialized swimming pool circulation and filtration equipment; inspects filter systems and equipment for leaks and proper operating condition.
- Works on assigned projects, and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience and individual skills; notifies supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority.
- Prioritizes work requests; identifies material and equipment needs; organizes supplies and equipment; and documents the work performed.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations.
- Cleans up spills and unsafe conditions in a timely manner and according to procedures.
- Inspects and maintains assigned equipment and small tools for proper operating condition; completes minor repairs on equipment as needed.
- Operates vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
- Completes daily work log, incident and accident reports, and requisitions for supplies and materials.
- Responds as directed to perform emergency cleaning and repair work as required.
- Assists in solicitation of bids for major work projects involving swimming and aquatics projects.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent GED and four (4) years of experience in skilled building trades, including six (6) months of pool maintenance experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid California driver's license.
The following certifications must be obtained within 90 days of appointment:
Must maintain Certified Pool Operators (CPO) Certificate OR an Aquatic Facility Operator's (AFO) Certificate.
Must maintain First Aid/CPR certification.

The City pays 100% of the monthly premium for employees and eligible dependents. This benefit includes one eye exam, one pair of lenses and a one-year supply of contact lenses per year.
Dental Coverage Provided by UMR
The City pays 100% of the monthly premium for employees and eligible dependents. The maximum benefit per calendar year per covered person is $2,000. The lifetime maximum benefit for orthodontic expenses per covered person is $3,000.
Life Insurance
Every full-time employee is provided Term life insurance equal to his/her annual salary with a maximum of $150,000.
Short-Term Disability Standard Insurance
Full-time employees must be employed a minimum of 30 days prior to receiving short-term disability benefits. There is a 29-day waiting eligibility period, and the maximum allotted time period is 180 days.
Long-Term Disability Standard Insurance
Coverage begins when an employee's disability period exceeds the 180th day timeline under short-term disability. The maximum allotted time period is determined by age when the disability begins.
Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) Retirement Benefit
Effective July 1, 2013, NEW CalPERS employee members will commence paying an employee contribution of 6.75%. A new employee who is not a member of CalPERS or is a former CalPERS member who has been out of CalPERS for six (6) months or more will be eligible to enroll in the City's 2% @ 62 Defined Benefit Pension Plan.
Effective July 1, 2014 "Classic" CalPERS employee members will be eligible to enroll in the City's 2% @ 55 CalPERS Retirement formula and will contribute a 7% employee contribution towards CalPERS Defined Benefit Pension Plan.

Deferred Compensation
The City contributes $25 per pay period and shall match an employee's deferred compensation in an amount not to exceed 3% of the employee's gross salary contribution per pay period.

Easy Eight Trip Reduction Program
Employees are eligible to participate in the Easy Eight Trip Reduction Program. Employees who carpool eight (8) days in a month are eligible to receive $25 per month for ridesharing / carpooling.
