The Bellevue Club Aquatics Department is in search of an experienced, energetic, and service oriented Aquatics Director. The individual in this role will plan, organize, promote and direct the activities of the Aquatics Department at the Bellevue Club, as well as manage the pool facility and lessons program. Supervise a staff of 30 or more including Assistant Aquatics Director, Aquatics Coordinator, lifeguards, senior guards, swim instructors, safety training instructors and contractual personnel. In addition to the supervisory responsibilities, additional activities may include, but not be limited to teaching, guarding, and coaching of the Masters swim program.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan and direct all aspects of the programs offered through the Aquatics Department. Examples of programs include the swim lesson program, water aerobics, the Masters swim program, etc. Develop and implement marketing plans as well as schedule the facility appropriately.
  • Direct the use and scheduling of the pool. Ensure the maintenance and safe usage of all facilities and equipment used in conjunction with Aquatics programs. Report maintenance concerns to the Facilities Department. Report custodial concerns to the Custodial Department. Take corrective actions during pool maintenance emergencies as necessary.
  • Prepare the annual budget and business plan for the Aquatics Department and monitor progress throughout the year. Adjust plans as necessary to ensure that financial and organizational objectives are met.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train all Aquatics Department personnel. Approve all payroll and billing information and complete necessary paperwork to staff the department. Supervise, train, and evaluate subordinates.
  • Oversee the scheduling of lifeguards to staff the pools during operating hours, seven days a week.
  • Oversee the swim lesson program to assure that the scheduling, and instruction conforms to established Club standards and budget expectations.
  • Collaborate with Bellevue Club Swim Team Head Swim Team Coach to effectively integrate the competitive program into the overall pool program.
  • Establish, update, and revise Aquatics emergency procedures according to Club policy, and train staff to respond to emergencies throughout the Club as appropriate.
  • Ensure the safety of pool patrons through strict compliance with county and state health and safety standards.
  • Ensure that pool patrons are aware of the posted rules of conduct for the pools and spa, and that they abide by the rules as written.
  • Analyze oral and written reports regarding various pool facility statistics and program information, as well as provide similar types of reports to Club management
  • Insures that the First Responders of the Club are properly trained in First Aid, CPR and AED’s. Acts as a First Responder in Club medical emergencies.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Plan, organize, attend, and may facilitate staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • May administer water tests for potential staff members.
  • May write articles for the monthly club magazine to promote Aquatics Department activities, programs, Club members, and staff members.
  • Ensure that all Aquatics staff members maintain current certifications and are fully trained in all areas related to Aquatics Department procedures.
  • Emergency Response Plan – Safety Officer – Assists the Incident Commander during an emergency by assuring that the environment in which all emergency responders are working is safe. The Safety Officer will constantly monitor response activities and change policies and/or procedures, with the concurrence of the Incident Commander, to maximize the safety of the responders. They report directly to the Incident Commander.

Supervisory Responsibilities Include:

  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Responsible for effectively training employees in all aspects of their essential and additional job duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent is preferred from a four-year college or technical school.
  • Two years of management experience preferred including supervision of at least 20 people as well as administrative duties such as performance reviews, payroll processing, and financial planning for department profitability.
  • Currently possess or obtain within the first 6 months of employment:
    • Current Lifeguard Certification
    • LGT (Lifeguard Training), LGTI (Lifeguard Training Instructor)
